Question:
Is it possible for this game to run a solid 90fps in VR on any hardware? I've got a fairly bleeding edge machine (and have a 1080 arriving on monday) but I just can't play without microstutter. I'm running an Oculus CV1, and the ASW does a nice job when you're sitting still, but any time anything is moving outside, it's obvious when the game is dropping to 45fps.. which it does a LOT, and for seemingly no reason.
I can turn the graphics down to VR Low, and still get just as much stutter, and sometimes it's on planet surfaces, but sometimes they're smooth. Sometimes it's in supercruise when nothing is around, but sometimes it'll be busy and smooth. Sometimes it's near a space station.
It's all very frustrating, particularly when I used to play quake3 at 120fps back in the 90s on fairly hardware.
I know what we're doing here is a lot harder, but I have just about the fastest computer you can run Elite on at the moment, and with graphics on low, it does NOT seem to be significantly strained by Elite, and yet it's dropping frames like crazy.
I've tried all kinds of different settings, overclocking, underclocking...
Any else have any better luck? Are we just screwed until Frontier makes an optimization pass on the Cobra engine?
My rig:
Brand new Windows 10 installation
ASUS RoG Hero VIII motherboard
i7-6700K
16GB DDR4
Samsung 950 Pro m.2 hard drive running in PCI-E mode (and no other drives)
MSI Twin Frozr GTX 980TI
750Watt PSU
All running nice and cool, with a window air conditioner about 5 feet from the machine, blowing cold air on it constantly.
