The VR-support Gratitude Thread

After all the recent bickering and criticising, I think it's only fair we voice our gratitude to the VR support ED has. We are all filled with it, and we know the devs do read these threads, so it is a worthwhile endeavour.

So I'll start by saying:

THANK YOU - for making a game that works so perfectly in VR. From the perfect FOV/depth, to the full motion tracking, to the UI integration (targeting, panel looking etc.), to the SDK optimisations (persistence, latency etc.)

THANK YOU - for still supporting it, still spending time and money on it, still trying to keep it up to date, to improve it, even though the VR community is a relatively small source of your income, and even though you are working with a developer's kit rather than a consumer product

THANK YOU - for giving us the Oculus Second Window feature, something that no other game has and lets me record/demonstrate/take off my headset

THANK YOU - for having an "Oculus - Headphones" setting that properly processes the directional audio

THANK YOU - for giving us so many settings to tweak to get the game just right for us, and giving us extras like the ability to change the HUD colours, apply post-fx, fiddle with game files etc.

THANK YOU - for putting up with our rants, impatience and lack of faith, and still remaining professional

THANK YOU - for letting your programmers occasionally come to our forum and talk to us about the technical details and answer our questions

THANK YOU - for communicating with us far more than any other game I've played. Even though your communication isn't perfect, it's still light years better than any other developer, and we do appreciate that. A weekly dev update from the top of the company who then answers our questions is basically unheard of. A full list of patch notes with every patch down to the last detail is just as rare.

THANK YOU - for fixing the problems that come up with VR very very quickly. Again, compared to other games I've played, things can break and remain broken for literally months.

So yeah, I know I can't stop people coming here and bringing criticisms, but I'll ask anyway - there are plenty of threads about what's wrong with the game so let's try to keep this one to only be about what's right about it. Not to sound spiritual, but gratitude makes the world go round...

I don't post very often but had to chime in and agree with the sentiments from the OP.

Also a very big thanks to everyone in this forum whose helpful posts meant I quickly was able to experience ED as it was meant to be experienced.
I've been "in my ship" as it were for a few months now and still have the odd wow moment and find my self grinning like a kid :)

Well said sir.
.
FD, keep up the amazing work. OR support keeps me coming back to this game at the expense of other big releases recently (GTAV, Witcher 3, Gal Civ 3).

I'm having a whale of a time with Elite in VR, and I appreciate the support FD's giving it. I'm happy to lengthen this thread.

I'm more than happy to chip in and say a BIG thank-you to all responsible @ FD for their effort and hard work in creating a outstanding product

I would also say the majority of people who use this VR sub section of the forum are thankfully quite realistic & sensible people who are understandably very passionate about this game and how they play it, after all we are a growing minority with a vision how truly important VR can & requires to be for the future of this game.

Personally I think we give feedback to the devs in a polite and constructive way unlike in other sub sections where they throw every toy out of the pram till they get what they want, but it's also important we do speak up when it's required

I completely agree. I am tempted to make a VR-community gratitude thread. But for now I'll say this, the last game I was on was aimed at spoiled teenagers I guess, because the forum was literally a whiney, comma-less, bad spelling rant machine. It was a ground breaking game that created some astonishing stuff yet all that happened was about 20 posts a day of people just complaining about completely minor things...

I almost lost faith in gamers and was going to rethink my gaming life until I came here. What a breath of fresh air!

Indeed I truly appreciate ED in VR, indeed i cant really play without it now. I see it as the showcase for why VR rocks!.

definitely good work, and regardless of whether VR was considered from the ground up for elite, the holo hud just works so so well.

I agree. Elite is the best VR experience I've ever had. To think of all the work they have done for a device that has not even had a commercial release is amazing. It's a big risk to devote resources to a part of development that does not generate a lot of revenue. My hopes are that investment will pay off huge once VR goes mainstream because they deserve it.

Is there another VR game with this level of support? I think not. Thanks to all at FD for continuing to be at the cutting edge of gaming. You are awesome.
