The walk.

It is a far cry from the ships in Star Citizen which come completely modelled. Scott Manley was showing some of the detail visible by clipping the camera through the hull of a t9 sized ship.
So far we did not even get unique cockpits for the ships expansion. If there are like you say plenty of people working on the internals they have kept it secret very well. The modularity btw should not be much
of an issue as the way Mr Braben described it there will be an elevator at the back of the cockpit to take you to the different rooms in the ship. Also what would there be to do? Combat does not take long
enough to allow a walk through the ship to put out fires, repairs maybe? there is a repair module. It is an exciting idea but not a simple one to implement.

We don't know at what stage the ships in ED are at. We do know that they will be fully fleshed out when this is an important feature, like walking around you ship. Regarding what you can do, is the same as what you can do in Star Citizen or any other game where you can walk around.

Yes it is kept very secret, only those who are working on it knows what is being done, and of course DB himself.

I think there's a chance what OP asks for will be in the multi crew patch. I wouldn't hold your breath tho

A chance is better then none. As I said earlier, as much as i am starting to understand what's being said it would make sense for multicrew. Especially if we're getting ship launched fighters at some point.

Personally, I would rather FDev focused on working on the missions side of things rather than spend time on eye candy. Walking through my ship might be interesting the first few times, but looking at bulkheads or panels that don't do anything isn't that thrilling at the end of the day. Same with character faces, I really don't care about a made up avatar that I don't look at. It does bug me when I arrive at a location and my contact never shows up, or I get interdicted 5 times in a row by the same NPC in a vulture that can't possibly match my jumps, or multi part missions can't be completed due to my ship type etc etc etc .....

Honestly I know that people are excited about walking around (both inside and outside of ships) but, really, this doesn't interest me that much. I buy a space sim to fly spaceships not walk about.

Actually you can do just that, season 1 is all about that. DB clearly explained during the KS what his intentions are with ED, and that is most likely what we will get, including walking around.

I'm more than happy for gameplay walking around to be implemented.
I'm less keen on immersion walking around - at least, until other gameplay has been implemented.

Great video link!

hehe at 4.25 he talks about walking around stations and hiding in the cargo of someone loading gold onto their ship.. You board it, shoot the pilot in the head, and you got yourself a shiny new Cutter! Oh that would so royally P!$$ off anyone! Scary!

Walking in stations? OMG, he's turning this game into Eve Online.... (haha)

You have obviously been playing a different game than I have for the last 6 mos.

NB: That is according to what there release content list says and not what people project should be in.
(because if you actually read what they say and announce, you would know that :D)

Scrolling through the recent post about top 3 things people want in the game I see a lot of people with the same desire to walk around ships. (Stations etc)

I agree the textures and surfaces modeling are probably fairly easy compared to making the mechanics work consistently and once that is working correctly there will be little/no reason to limit where on the ship you could walk.

I get its a nice gimmick to have. But once you´ve taken a tour, then what ? Surely it can wait till more important stuff is done.

Slightly complicated as you will need mag boots or be able to float. I guess it's a challenge in development time to do both for FD?

No 3rd person in Elite, that is not how they want the game to be. For that you will need Star Citizen. Think of it as DayZ in Veteran / hard core mode.

That's why I mentioned Adrift as an example.

SC is first person incase you missed that. It is also PC only, which will allow much more than what ED did with their PC port. Think of ED as SC light for the consoles with a PC port for those that purchased the beta when all those features got us to purchase it, and we are still waiting on them.

I am ALSO itching.

But Walking round requires control system.
We have to navigate our cockpits in every gravitational circumstance.
You've already started doing the core work to walking around the rest of the ship - which since they have been a part of the planning and ship design since the beta.
Why not go the whole way.

And then what else?

We are going to need to do things.
Some cockpits are tiny so this one little feature is a lot of work with an unbiased set of player reward.

Allowing walking around them the cockpits would be a tiered experience, Eagle vs Sidewinder vs Anaconda.
You get a whole bunch of walking round where as the Eagle pilot does not.
It's not fair assesment of resources.
