The way forward for ED?

I'll admit that Horizons was overpriced at launch but Frontier quickly realized their mistake and dropped it to £19.99, within what, a month? Bringing it down to the same price as The Witcher 3's expansion pass. So like I said, they've always been of a similar price-point.

No, it did not drop in price in a month. They have not been a similar price point (except recently).

Even if that was the case (it wasn't) then Horizons is still poor value in comparison.
If Blood and Wine cost twice as much as Horizons it would be be better value in comparison.

Sorry I forgot the game is only about everything 2.0 onwards....

try being a non combat pilot explorer bored to tears with the game and taking LONG breaks...then tell me it's not pew pew based.

Pre 2.0 wasn't entirely pew pew either. CQC was but PP, Wings, CGs and ships weren't exclusively pew pew. 1 out of 5.
I'm not saying there isn't an issue with exploration, there is, it's boring and barely game play (jump, honk, jump). It's just that it's the same across the board. Every profession is lacking, they all need work.

I agree exploration needs more work but combat gameplay ain't much better.

I think FD have done an incredible and amazing job with horizons. Years before you had fractal terrain, now they have put unique procedural planets among the 400 billion stars. I can't think of any other game out there that comes close at all for the horizons addon. The package has been well worth it to me. Fights are great, passengers are back like they were with FFE, Multi-crew is functional , all the gameplay invovling missions on the ground, mining with the SRV, massive bases, small interesting mining or research bases and how powerplay changes control of them. I never understood what was so bad about engineers. It makes sense module tweaks would need items that are not readily available at a retail distribution market. Most sci-fi tropes involves special items or materials needed for some thingamajig to work by a talented techhead character.
Well, looks like we had a week of positive morale with renewed faith in FDev with the PS4 launch. It was fun to see how the game felt better than ever on the forum and congratulating the devs' dedicated and bar-setting work. But I guess the salt is coming back now..
In my opinion I think it's part due to the constant update media from SC that misleads expectations in the space setting gaming industry and as a side effect diminishes the bar-setting achievements of ED. SC's "procedural" planet demo turned out to be just another scripted animation. Not enough procedural depth in horizons, would we want the procedural nonsense filler that was seen in NMS? i didn't think so. Even if Fdev settled on fleshing out one or two planets, there would still be complaints about how the rest of the millions of planets had nothing on them. Take a look at simmarket.com where it takes various different third market teams of developers months, even years to build a scenery set for a location or a specific complex plane addon for FSX. In the 13 years since FS2004 and a few years later FSX, the 3rd party development has built hundreds of scenery locations but still a long ways from covering every airport and county in the world , so I think in comparison it's amazing what FDev has done in house so far.

Yes I agree to a point. The execution of the landable planets in Horizons is excellent and FD should right be applauded for that....but NO gameplay beyond pew pew and collecting rocks. The potential there is incredible, Let us do planetary surveys, mine planets properly....I'm not even on about atmospheres yet, I just wish FD would PLEASE give us more to do out in the black that can earn money for those who don't want to pew pew at all. I'd like a whole suite of sensors that can gather a smeg tonne of data on ONE planet with involving gameplay mechanics beyond "point at star/planet/moon...wait 20-30 seconds...repeat" which is the bore fest we currently have. I've seen loads of incredibly good ideas about how to do it on these forums over the 2.5 years that the game has been out.

wings is mainly combat based, how can they be used non combat wise in an interesting way?

Combat across the board has had more though, whether combat players like it is another thing, but largley irrelevant to what I'm saying. But if true then sadly I'm wondering even more just what on earth FD are doing!!

Yes..
They absolutely make mistakes, of course they do, but I'm confident they want to make the best game that they can.
There are plenty of areas that can and should be improved, there are plenty of new mechanics they can and should add, there is lots of general polish to be done.. But gradually they are doing those things and we really shouldn't underestimate the design and technical challenges they face, especially with a live game and especially with a highly divided and vocal community watching their every step.
We also shouldn't undervalue what we have. The sound and visuals are good, the basic mechanics are good. If we look at where things were and where they are I'm pretty certain we are in a better place now. Is anyone else delivering this kind of experience? I don't think so..
So I'm confident in FD, I'll continue to point out things I don't like, don't agree with or feel should be added or changed, but I'm happy for them to get on with it :)

Your sig's a bit ironic because you seem to have your fanboy blinders on right now.
