Engineers The way to Palin (... and Thargoids)

Hi, since i'm pretty sure that in 2.4 we'll need access to Palin to have any chance to "interact" with Thargoids, i'm trying to force myself to begin the grind for rngineers.

I'm now grade 3 with Martuuk, and my question is: to let her talk me about Marco qwent, do i just have to work a bit more on her, or have i to grind sirius corp beforehand?

Secondary question, how much do i need to grind sirius corps? Have i to get to allied or i just have to do some missions for them?

Thank you fellow pilots.

You need to raise your rep with her some more. If you are already at grade 3 it should be enough to let her make one G3 mod. If you grind Sirius Corp beforehand or afterwards doesn't matter. And you will need allied rep here, because although you only need a raw rep of friendly with the faction for the engineer, you also need the permit for the Sirius system (which you get at allied).

Right, about halfway through Grade 3 you'll get the message about Qwent. To get the Sirius permit you'll need the allied status, iIrc

I don't remember... Martuk will grant you access to 2 engineers : Qwent and Nemo, but I'm not sure if you need to raise your rep with both of them or only one. Anyway, the worst is Qwent : Sirius Corp grind to get allied (the easiest), the invitation to Qwent by Sirius Corp (the worst), 25 Modular Terminals (the grindiest). Goos luck, and patience !!
For the Modular Terminals, I ended by doing something else and keeping close to my base of operation a dedicated jumper (a 55 Ly DBX) to deliver those commodities when I got them through mission payments.

Grinding to allied isn't terrible and I had to get the invitation in another system (in Avik) because it never appeared in the system I was grinding rep in. Sirius Corp rep can be gained in a lot of systems but for some reason they don't all give you the invitation.

Modular Terminals I got from doing Quince planetary scan missions but you can probably get them anywhere/ I just wanted to earn some coin while doing it.

Are Modular Terminals a mission commodity reward?
In that case i might have sold some of them in the past to not have to carry them around :p
Damn lack of item store :'D

you can gather them while gaining rep for the Sirius Corp, Sothis and Ceos are good for this

Yeah I used to sold them by dozens, or eventually throw them through the cargo hold if I was about to be interdicted by a pirate, only to find myself running after them the very next day and of course, finding no mission with these as a reward... After grinding the Sirius allied status and the invitation, this was too much. The only solution : fly a T9 to keep all those commodities that engineers will request :D

He will not last long in T-9. Lost 3 Pythons full of terminals... Permit/status first, commodities last.
Do NOT carry them around. Make partial delivery and carry on with Your business.

Right. I did it in solo. And right again : commodities must come last, they're a drag for the cargo bay. At least in a Python you have a better chance to fight back or flee than in a T9 !

Proycon good for sirius missions, when allied can take a while for the qwent invitation mission.
Yes I handed terminals in a few at a time.
Good luck

Doing missions is actually the slowest way to become allied with a faction. The fastest way is exploration data, you can become allied in one go if you have 7.5 million worth of data to hand in. Combat bonds is next fastest, but the faction has to be in a war or civil war. Bountyhunting is next, and certainly the most reliable. Trade is next, then mining. But all of these need to be done at a station owned by the faction you want to gain reputation with. If they don't own any stations, you are stuck with having to do missions.

I did everything asked, got the invite and went to Marco Qwents base and donated the 25 modular terminals. I upgraded my newly purchased 8A Power Distributer to Enhanced G1 ok got a very good roll 7.4+4.8+4.8iirc and went to add G2 but no access. It says not enough materials despite having a minimum of 15units of everything needed to get right up to G5 when I go to the Dweller at Wyrd. I even went to Pattersons and bought 240 tons of stuff to sell in his supermarket but still got no access to G2. I only went through this to get access to Profesor Palin for the G5 Dirty Drive. can anyone tell me how long it takes to get the Palin invite?.

Maybe it's a bug, maybe not... Who knows ! Did you craft only one upgrade or several at Qwent's ?

Rep with Engineers comes either by crafting upgrades or making profits.

For the first, any upgrade generates reputation, but the higher upgrades make more reputation. It is not required to apply the upgrade, and it takes 3 to 4 crafts per level to go to the next one (ex : crafting 4 Grade 1 upgrades generates enough rep to unlock the next level).

For the other ways, basically it's making profit in trading (profits, not sales), or combat bonds redeeming, or exploration data sales... I don't remember amounts though...

Fly safe !
