The only two problems I have with the cannons on the Eagle is that they tend to "jam" when an enemy goes above your nose, which can be a bit frustrating when every second counts and a missed shot can mean the difference between life and death.

The other might be lag related as it only seems to happen with certain players, but I've noticed that sometimes when attacking an un-sheilded condor from above it, the cannon rounds pass straight through them. Doesn't seem to happen when hitting one from directly behind.

Apart from that the cannons can be very effective, they just need the right play style to use them.

I like the rapid fire cannon. They are fun. I can use the power for speed and shield. Which give me a higher kill rate

If you value speed/maneuverability, then you fly a Condor and accept weaker weapons and shields in return.

Except the Condor's starting pulse lasers have so good tracking abilities, that their effective DPS is higher than what you would expect for this ship loadout.

I have only tried CQC a couple of times, but in all the matches I played the top players were flying pulse laser Condors. This brings the question, were they all flying plCs because they were awesome pilots, or were they awesome pilots because they were flying plCs?

Ok. So I've played around a bunch more to discover that the plasma repeaters in fact use 0 energy. You can have 0 pips in weapons and still fire forever. 4 pips shields really made the difference for me - haven't lost any TDMs since going 4 pips shields.

One can certainly make the plasma repeaters work since they use no power. But it depends on who you are gunning for. I've had several 5-minute chases on people that had a lead indicator so jumpy (teleporting indicator) that it was impossible to land any hits on them. Dealing with these laggers / (or exploiters?) is much easier with lasers, and as a bonus it is easier to hit stealthed/chaffed/cold runners with manual aiming as well.

Since you can change loadouts mid game i would still recommend lasers when going up against a bad bunch. It's just a shame that things like lag unbalances non-hitscan weapons.
