They are being broadcast into the space station... so you are hearing them echo around the room through the walls of your ship. They aren't supposed to sound like your ship voice. The only thing you can do is press your ear up against the inner wall of your ship.

Thanks. I always adjusted the sound settings while using the witchdrive and never realized I could scroll down (because I had to get out of there before I crash into a planet).
