General / Off-Topic The world is crazy. The important events comes at an incredible speed

It seems some people took the old Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" a bit too literally.
That isn't meant to diminish the gravity of the situations.

The brexit, the slaughter of Nice, the coup in the Turkey. A little peace now ?
Doubtful. The world hasn't been at peace for 100s of years, if ever. We live in the most turmoiled era ever presently. We hear about Nice, Orlando, Texas etc...because it's in western countries and appears in the media. But here's the thing: much worse atrocities are going on constantly in other areas of the world and not a word is ever said in the media.

No war in Europe. Tanks haven't rolled into Poland. The Soviet Union isn't constructing T-34s with an insane dictator "purging" his top generals. Britain isn't handing out ration books (yet!) as the food is running out. Convoys aren't desperately looking at the horizon for submarines. The IJN hasn't bombed any Hawaiian islands. The USA doesn't have someone who had Guillain–Barré syndrome in the Whitehouse.

In the face of all that's happening it feels wrong to say - we've got it quite good compared to others who came before us.

This is actually the most praceful, least violent time in human history.

Peace? Things will only get worse now because western countries are deeply divided on how to deal with it...perfect time for terrorists to strike because we can't react to them fast enough and the effects are amplified through the fear and confusion that already exists within europe and elsewhere. The timing really won't get any better for them now and things will almost certainly get worse.

We do indeed live in interesting times, but i still think i was born at the right time (1993). No wars at home in my time, no plague, no cold war paranoia, no religious rule (yet), i'd say that we in the west have had it better than others for quite some time, thanks to secular liberal/social democracy.

You are going to live through the effects of environmental devastation and, possibly, the age when antibiotic resistance finally means that the era of modern medicine is at an end.

You should have been born 20 years earlier like me.

It's not that events are unfolding at a faster pace than before. It's that we're more aware of it. Welcome to the modern communication age...

Yup, this. The world is probably more peaceful now than at any other point in history, it's just that we're all immediately aware of everything that happens everywhere.

We have it quite good on the face of things however beneath the surface there are wars that are being waged. America is at war within itself, Europe is in a constant war with immigration and terrorists. You think that because we general citizens seem to have it good that there's not wars raging all over the world? In this era war is often hidden

Actually it isn't. Quite the opposite. Not sure what you are drinking or smoking but you need to get off that stuff right away and try opening your eyes and ears a bit. Your comment is quite hilarious. Most peaceful, least violent time LMAO....I guess it's nice living under a rock or burying your head in the sand eh. Just because the war isn't all out war like WWII and isn't on your doorstep means you think we live in peaceful times????? Ok then....Another sheeple buying the mainstream tabloid bull that's spewed into your living room every day eh?

Nice, orlando, texas...yes those were very peaceful times for us here in our living rooms. That's about the only "most peaceful" you will get. Clearly you are quite deluded young man

Also not true. Partly yes but a lot of stuff isn't even covered by mainstream media. We have outcry when dozens die in a western country, meanwhile in Africa and other parts of the world those kind of events are happening on a daily basis yet you never read about them in the news. This thread shows how detached people are and how truly blind they are to what is actually going on in the world, because they just watch their news on their favourite biased, mainstream news channel or whatever and think that's all that's going on. Wake up people.

Another deluded, blindfolded invidivual. More peaceful? Lol....wake up seriously wake the f up!
I'm going to refrain from now on in this thread, It's not going to end well but you people are completely uninformed, blinkered individuals and are "victims" of mainstream media and the general public consensus on what's going on. Anyone with a brain and who looks into the state of things right now can easily see how completely wrong you are about this. As I said, it's the comnplete opposite.

Google "world war 2"
Google Africa, genocie, Burma/Myanmar etc etc. Well done you know about WWII now wake up and get back to present times and make yourself aware of what's going on in the world currently. Just because there's not a "World War" doesn't mean the world is not at war. There are more wars now than there have ever been.
All happy in the comfort of your armchair living room? That's great. Doesn't mean there isn't stuff going on you're not aware of. Make yourself aware! But you won't. You believe your own and will continue to do so I am guessing. Have fun with that. Deniability eh? makes you feel good. Good for you

Actually, what is apparent is not that I know nothing about the present, but that you know nothing about the past.

Bzzzzzt wrong! Got any other strawman arguments? It's only apparent you know nothing about the present. I know plenty, most likely more than you, about the past as I'm an avid researcher, which you sir, clearly are not. It's easy to find out about the past and I'm quite aware of the history of wars. Hindsight is great right? Knowing about the present is far more difficult, especially for people who like to bury their heads in the proverbial sand.

Go and do some research on the current conflicts in the world. Terrorism, genocide, systematic killings, persecution of women, races and religions in certain parts of the world. You think things are better now becaused you have a computer, games, a TV, stream netflix and can buy anything you want to eat by just walking to your supermarket, or driving there in your luxurious car??? Oh how the mighty will fall

Weapons today do far more damage than they did during WWII, or even 50yrs ago. They are also far more accessible. I won't even bother going into numbers or all the various types of weapons whether they be automatics, missiles, mines, hellfire missiles or whatever because it would clearly go over your head.
Keep believing what you like you'll still be wrong. Look for the facts they are there. Ignoring facts does not mean you know more about the past, it simply means you are ignoring the present.

Have fun with your ignorance young man (you are clearly quite young, or very very uninformed, ill-educated or both. Or you just like to believe the world is at peace because you're comfortable in your living room and you also have very little empathy) if it makes you feel safe.

Wow, that's just so insulting and ignorant that I don't know where to start! I'll just point out that I'm actually in my 40's, and an archaeologist, and add you to my increasingly bloated ignore list. Cheery bye.

I think it is more a case of communications technology continually bombarding us with stories from around the globe within minutes of the event occurring rather than lots of things happening all at once. We are being overwhelmed with information, nothing more.
