The Xbox Controller works just fine, you don't need this.
One of the devs plays with Xbox Controller exclusively.

I play with a gamepad as well, though it's a Logitech one.

But I still use keyboard and sometimes mouse - so that's lacking.

The X-Box can also drive only one screen, and no apps in the background (as far as I know), so there's no looking up stuff and listeing music/watching videos/chatting while flying.

The advanced pad setting does everything except type in system names and that's not hard for them to add at some point.

I play with my xbox one controller... it's a beast. unlike the most expensive flightsticks you probably cant map everything but its only minor things like landing gear that I use kb for, obviously when it comes to the console all of that will be voice activated via Kinect. Certainly a cost effective (in my case free) and precise way of controlling your ship. I heartily recommend it (except to pc fanboy elitists who would rather set fire to themselves than admit anything console related could be good).
