Anyone know how to get out of FSD? I'm doing the the pilot training where I travel to an outpost but cannot come out of FSD unless I disable it in the systems panel modules menu.n I tried to press "Y" but that did not work.

Hold the A button to bring up the radial and press up on D pad this will disengage you provided you are close enough and slow enough.

Make sure your control settings in the option menu are set to "Default". I had it set to classic and could not get out of super cruise till I changed them.

Ship controls

Do the ships control differently?
I don't mean handle differently as they obviously will.
I mean are the buttons for the axis controls different for different ships?

Now I may have changed something I shouldn't have but I don't know.

I use default control settings always.

I started off with the sidewinder and sussed out the controls pretty easily.

I now have an Eagle and they just seem so different and find it much harder to land at a dock.

I'm sure that using the right stick in alternate mode did the thrust on the both the horizontal and vertical axis but it was different in standard control mode.
When I am in standard control it seems to do the same when using the right stick on both axis.

Maybe it's just me but it feels like something is different.
Maybe I just can't fly an eagle.

The controls are the same regardless of vessel. Your ship's agility/ Mass alters your handling. If you have trouble docking remember to slow down. There's no need to waste credits for things that should not have happened (I've slammed a Cobra into a station due to a mistiming... wasn't pretty...). Also watch out for other ships. A Type-9 or any other large ship may notice their shields flaring as you become a cloud of debris but that's about it. An Eagle, an Adder, and a Fer-de-Lance handle COMPLETLY differently. The Eagle's agility makes it a hard target for many ships to get a hold of in combat. Some time, undock, make your way outside, and just fly around. Try and see if you can keep a system security ship in the center of your screen for as long as possible at different speeds. Once you have a feeling for that, fly close to the station and try to survive getting to the other end.

FYI the current default controls for the Xbox one are set to Classic.
You can change the setting in the options menu.

The Default controls should be Default, not classic. This will get fixed in an update. I would recommend Default as the button groupings make much more logical sense.

How do you navigate the Z axis in the Galaxy map with an XBox controller?

I know how to pan and zoom in the galaxy map but for the life of me I can't figure out how to navigate the z axis. It seems like when you are scrolling around the map you can only select planets within a certain distance above and below you - how do you select planets further "up" or "down"?

I think in the PC version you hold down the control key while moving the mouse, but what is the XBone equivalent?

A little tip for combos on the xbox controller....

Just in case anyone hasn't figured it out, you don't need to wait for the menu to pop up when inputting the "combos" on the xbox controller

Basically you can press the buttons almost simultaneously as long as you hold down the letter button.

May seem obvious, but wasn't obvious to me at first so I was getting frustrated with the slight pause after holding down the "letter" button for the menu to pop up, before then pressing the next button (ie bumper or dpad)

Anyhoo, thought I'd post just in case it does help anyone who's still waiting for that menu to appear :)

Yeah i only just found that out myself, i was thinking of making a post.. Good thing you beat me to it Commander

Great post! I only recently discovered this myself.. saves alot of time and makes up those lost seconds lol

IMO once you start to learn where key things are quick mapped (e.g Hold A + Left D-Pad to open map) its better than a keyboard and you dont have to take your hands off any controllers.

Completely agree with this. Took me a while to recall the combos but now it's almost second nature, although I still need to get to grips with FA off and on!

same here.. the button combo always say ACTIVATE, even if its already activated. Would be nice if it ACTIVATE would change in DEACTIVATE.

Whats your control scheme customizations

I've always configured my FPS games like a flight sim on controller (forward on right stick means to pitch forward or look down). Handy for games like SW Battlefront 2 where you went from FPS to flying an Xwing and don't want to get backwards.

In ED, they moved all the pitch/yaw/roll to the left stick, and I am not a fan of roll except when needed.

So I experimented and moved pitch/yaw/roll to the right stick and tweaked yaw and roll so until I got over 50% on the stick, its a yaw, then it's a roll. Seems about right and gives me the FPS-like control (albeit pokey turning) that I hoped for. I don't expect to be a dog-fighter, so it should be fine...

what changes have you made to the control scheme?

I did the same and switched free look in the cockpit to left stick (it makes lining up to dock much easier).

If you want you can separate roll/yaw by setting roll to right stick in alternate control (simply click the stick to switch).
