The yellow square

When I first started using a Rift, about a fortnight ago, there was a small yellow square in the centre of the screen. I'd never seen it in 3 years of flying on a flat screen & it seemed to be quite useful in VR, to know exactly where your ship was pointing.

This last week - for 'multi-tasking' reasons, and due to frequent guests, I resorted to flat-screen flying again - but the square is still there!

I've looked through the options but cannot see a way to turn it off - it's VERY annoying on flatscreen tbt.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it in flatscreen?

Its always been available in the options menu. I think its in the miscellaneous section, will have a look at some point soon and get back if no one else answers.

That is actually what they refer to as the mouse widget.

I use it all the time. We don't have proper tools to know our orientation to objects around us. At least I know where I am pointing until the AI shoots out the hud.

Found it, turned it off, thanks for the info Commanders.

The 'explanation' in the menu leaves something to be be desired - as usual!

For Me.....This yellow square has been the single most improvement in my interdiction skills. I use this to line up the interdiction target instead of the round circle, as with some ships especially the Chieftain, the round circle is wayout. Using the square means you are always smack on target.

The improvements to interdiction and avoiding interdiction is for me a HUGE HUGE improvement!
