The youngest commander ?

When I was 15 I was inspired by playing Frontier Elite II on the Amiga. I bought a telescope, went on to study physics and maths A levels, and in 1996 went to university to study astrophysics. There I met my future wife who was on the same course, and here we are in 2014 with a baby daughter called Maia, named after a star in the Pleiades. She's 10 months old and I just gave her a go at the Elite Dangerous alpha...

Welcome back Commander!

Maia, (bless her) looks very dedicated and may practise when your off duty, soon enough she’ll accompany you or take over even! Kudos and thank you for your continued loyalty.

Take care and Elite!

Errr.... no. She only just started sleeping thru the night. 10 months of no sleep has addled my brain!

Oh mate, don't be telling me that. Me and my missus just started trying for kids, and she can sleep through a nuclear war meaning I'll be the one stuck with this!

Have to say - your story is kinda similar to mine. I didn't play the original, but was addicted to FE2 on the oul' A500, and it sparked an interest in astronomy. Didn't become an astrophysicist, but have a nice C9.25 downstairs that I'll be hauling out tomorrow night for my astronomy club's monthly public star party. All thanks to Elite.

Congrats on Maia - she'll be backing you up on trading runs in no time!

I've never seen grim, steely determination looking so cute!
You can tell she closing in on a kill - two hands on the stick for complete precision.
