General / Off-Topic The youth of today!!!

Not meaning to sound like some old fart (I'm only 48) but to all those young modern gamers crying a river in these forums about Elite being too hard .... ?

Wah ... It's too hard
Sob ... It takes to long to turn
Whine ... Dog fighting is tough
Boohoo ... Why is my spaceship not a turret in space
Moan ... Takes too long to earn credits
Cry ... Why do I have to do everything, where's my auto computer

Grow a pair, put some time and effort in and earn your place in space damn it !!!

:p

Everyone whos whining didnt play the original back in ´84... so I wouldnt take them too serious :)

:D

I mostly agree - although they are not all like that. I showed one of my console gaming friends the original on a Speccy emulator - now he's hooked on the Amiga version.

He's not so interested in the sequels or ED itself though.

+1
And the 30 july we will get more of it! :D

I think you're just worried about us young'uns beating you all at your own game :p

I think there's a disproportional number of older players here in the beta, since players of the previous games are:
  1. Familiar with the franchise
  2. More willing/able to pay to get into the beta
Once the full game is released or even just the standard beta, I think we'll see the age-curve of the game get pushed back a bit.

I definitely wouldn't say make the gross generalization that younger players are less competent though. Less patient? Sure, but we'll surprise you with our reflexes and how quickly we pick things up! Watch out gramps, a new generation's in town :p

Bring it ;)

The main problem with newer generation gamers is of course that they have no time to play anything. Between twittering and posting on farcebook about getting ready to play a game, and then twittering and posting on farcebook about actually playing it - they get very little done.

Plus of course they tend not to have PC's - but itoys and consoles, so we won't be seeing too many of them in the immediate future.

Also - a lot of them are unemployed so they have no cash to even buy games :(

Hopefully these issues will fix themselves as the economy recovers. Then they can bring it too ;)

Good point!

And turn that bloody music down.

Youth of today, I'll tell you, it was the school of hard knocks and university of life for me. Don't know you are born you lot, it used to be on a tape I tell you, A TAPE!!!!
