"Theme Parks" or "Fairgrounds" ???

I'm not good at designing dark ride so for me it's most like:
1. Coaster
2. Water-rides
3. Flat rides
4. Darkrides
5. Transport rides
[happy]

[...] But What I most want is:
1. Darkrides.
2. Coasters.
3. Waterrides.
4. Transportrides.
5. Flatrides
Exactly the same order for me !!! [up]

Dark rides, Coasters (and sometime Water rides) are clearly the most interesting to design to me.
And Flatrides/Thrillrides is when I'm too lazy to design a big (and expensive) ride.

You would love a attraction out the Efteling called:"The flying Dutchmen" It is a Darkride, Coaster and a Waterride! It has a beautiful theme and everything is themed. The queque is even themed. It is my favorite ride in the Efteling. And my second favorite ride in the world (I have not rode all but from the attraction that I rode)

I want
Water rides
Dark rides
Transport rides
Coaster rides
Flat rides
But maybe not in that order. lol.

I do not know, but I prefer open scenery rides over dark rides. It is more beautiful (as park as whole) with a coaster riding through a scenery and forest ridden park than just seeing a building and then ride inside. But of course there's great dark rides too with good exterior.

But with that said I do want dark ride ability, of course. So you can design a beautiful exterior, but then also make a interior that is completely shut off from the outside world. What one would think of is ghost ride and fairytale ride, it is most common in this aspect and often it is just ploppable flat ride which is a little bit boring.

Ok I am contradicting myself.

The best of course is to combine the two worlds! Dark ride which goes out in the open sometimes in a combined scenery area. <3
RCT 1 and/or 2 make me think of this, with the automatic opening doors.

We are talking about now, and not the day of release (at that time, the scenario mode was probably played by the overwhelming majority). But I said "Is STILL played".

I dont think that people who bought the game in 2006 for example, still play the campaign mode (or they need cheatscodes because they are zero [big grin])
In contrast, the community that continue to create (or recreate parks) is important.

It's like saying that any "Call of Duty" or "Battlefield" are still played after some year for the solo mode. I'm sure it's a bit the case, but by very few people.

I think your opinion is based on the fact that you like the management part more than design part (which I can understand), but I seriously doubt that it reflects reality.
So yes, maybe I'm wrong. Like when I say that Minecraft is not played for the story about the dragon.
I possesses no statistics, so this is just a guess.

But, let's stop the off-topic [happy]
And back to the "direction" of the game if you agree.

I do understand that construction and the wish to create is important, no doubt. For me, the scenario mode is important cause there you see how deep the Simulation will let you handle. That means it is also a bit preparation for the sandbox mode. Of Course, you want to create Disneyland and rebuild this park and for that I do understand your preoccupation. Like Diabo I´m not a great designer, so our two positions are totally understandable due to our preferences [tongue]

Ok, back to subject of the thread. Theme Park AND Fairground should be the answer.

Just don't understand how anyone could think this game looks like it lacks innovation. It's completely rewritten my expectations of crowd interactivity and ride design, and I daresay we have only seen a bare morsel of the game itself.

This is not exactly what I said ... [weird]

I'm totally agree with you with the crowd interactivity ...

That 's what I hoped : Innovation.

And to innovate with these games, you have to think about new stuff like darkrides, hotels, sitting restaurants, real shops with shelves, spray roads system, and many other things from the "suggestions & ideas list".

Just where I got it from, but I understand there was more to it. Anyways, it's gonna be a great game! Being able to build amazing dark rides would be great, I agree, and hopefully on their development agenda. They have said that Planet Coaster is 'just the beginning' and they hope to build on it for years to come.

What I meant is that I always see the same suggestions in all the forums I visit. (approximately always the same 20/30 suggestions who come back, again and again, regardless of the language of the forum)

Players who are waiting for the next theme park simulator have particular expectations, things that they want improved, things that they never had in this genre of game (and sometimes that they have to mod themselves because they were too excited, even though it's not as good as if it was planned in the initial game).

I just find strange they innovate on certain topics (which are great, dont get me wrong, I'm very happy to have guests like this, for example) but that nobody wait (let's be honest, who was waiting for a "ride motion system programming" ? Even if it's a very good idea, clearly nobody), and on the other hand, on the highly expected topics, they announce that this is not planned.

Same with the direction (the initial subject of this topic). Players clearly want a ThemeParks/AmusementParks builder (even if some are not good at designing things), but what we saw for now is a fairground builder (an enhanced version it's true, but still) with minirides (mini wheel, mini carousel), with fairground thrillrides, with 90's drink/food stalls (with a big plastic object on the roof), with the confirmation that there will not darkrides, no darkcoaster, or any indoor ride, no custom texture for our logos, no custom music in speakers, and with very few water rides.

It's very very strange, and even if the communication if better than others game (btw : where are you Brett C ?), even if the game have a real identity (thanks to the art director), we still dont know what's the real vision/direction of the game.

Anyway, if I try to be as critical as possible with this game, it's precisely because I'm a fan, and I'm sure this game will be great, but I want it to be perfect. [happy]

Ha ha fair enough! It's great we get these forums to voice what we want in PC too!

As for NO dark rides... I wonder if they will still have the classic ghost trains and car rides/what-not, and you can just build a building around it and place static/animatronic scenery around it to give the illusion of a dark ride without the full functionality... I do think they should at least have that to start off with!

No, I must contradict with you...it looks nothing like a "fairground builder" for now. A fairground is something like Müncher Oktoberfest...it looks more like a Six-lags/ Cedar Park-style for me - and both of them declares themselves as "theme parks". The rides are beautiful themed, they told us that there will be more abbilities to build stalls...and a limited amount of water-rides doesn't mean very few...a log flume, watercoaster a rapid river and towboat ride are a limited number but you don't need more types in a theme-park. And with the abbility of piece by piece building you're able to build main-streets etc....so to speak about a fairground-builder is a bit exaggerated

This is why I said "an enhanced version" just after "fairground builder" [yesnod]

So of course it's exaggerated, it's a way to schematize an idea, in order to explain my arguments.

More of a Fairground Guy myself. Theme Parks are like putting makeup on a Pig.

I like the Older Stuff 1920-late 70's. Were rides look like they were held together by Duct Tape and Bubble Gum Covered in Grease. Like built in the back yard by Tim Allen. Stepping over power cables, Port-a-Potties, a Gas/Charcoal Grill- fridge- Ice Chest under a tarp for refreshments, blow up animals on a stick.

Minimalist. Painted Plywood and Homemade Props to be added later for themeing.

Stuff you see along Highways and Mall Parking Lots with employees that look like they just got done wrestling those made up greasy pigs.

Half the Fun and Thrill was thinking you could die any minute if you fell through the seat of the Farris Wheel at the top. Or the Home Built Angle Iron Coaster could bust a Weld in a corner and go flying off the track. The only thing between you and the rides were a few pieces of temporary fencing that the ride just misses by inches.

Lets not forget at some, they had Fully Automatic BB Machine Guns or Half Load .22 cals to win prizes.
