General / Off-Topic Then and now Remakes

looking back at our younger years we all have fond memory's of games that we all lost many hours playing.

seeing a few older posts about old games that need a remake I thought I would give a list including links to these remakes of old classics.

I have missed out many but I would think these are the classics.

starting with Elite > Elite Dangerous

Syndicate Wars > Satellite Reign

Skool Daze > Bully

UFO: Enemy Unkown > Xenonaughts

I refute Skool Daze - Bully..

Bully = School GTA :p

Also X-Com - X-Com :D

ok Bully is almost a GTA but buy todays standard its the closest your going to get to the game skool daze.

Xcom, sure there is a official remake, but Xenonoughts is a remake of the original UFO Enemy unknown,

There needs to be a real 21st century remake of ...

Give me these two on a modern PC with all bells and whistles, add updated stories and I'm happy as pie. Better still add Oculus Rift support !!! Um? What about Rescue on Fractalus style of game as a possible mission storyline for planetary play when landing on planets becomes a reality? Actually, hell ... why not just do modified versions of both concepts to planetary play in an E: D form?

Elite: Dangerous is not a remake of classic Elite

Elite: Dangerous is not a remake of classic Elite, but a sequel to Frontier: First Encounters.

UFO: Enemy Unkown > Xenonaughts

This has been remade a few times.
There were the sequels >>> Terror From The Deep and Apocolypse
There was a remake >>> UFO Aftermath and UFO Aftershock (may be others in that series)
There has also been a fan made remake UFO AI
And the new remake X-COM

and the original UFO : Enemy Unknown was itself a remake of Laser Squad

I bought the newest X-com and apart from the grafix it was way to easy it toke me only 2 days to finish it, was hoping for more gameplay than that.......:(, and i was not even trying finish it fast.

Which difficulty did you play it on? Normal is too easy; Classic should be 'Normal' and 'Impossible' should be 'Classic'. Don't even think about playing on 'Easy'...

Just seen a Steam update that says there's a remake of 'Space Hulk' on the way. Can't believe I've somehow missed that until now...

Nope, satellite reign is from the lead designer of syndicate wars, not syndicate.
Oh, pulled my pledge... I had misunderstood it...

Not true. The lead developer for Five Lives Studios, Mike Diskett, was the lead developer for both Syndicate and its sequel, Syndicate Wars when he worked for Bullfrog.

And to be even more succinct, Mike and his team don't own the copyright to the Syndicate series, so they can't actually do a remake or a sequel. But they really really want to make another one in the same vein, so that is why Satellite Reign is essentially termed a 'spiritual successor', something entirely new but done in the same cyberpunk style as Syndicate which is esentially what the fans always wanted.

Have to agree both Fractalus and Koronis Rift could be made into incredible games today....
The story line especially in Koronis Rift ...

Searching the lost legendary eerie planet...leaving your rover and looting hulks not knowing what's inside...each one.....Could be made to be a real atmospheric jumpy game :)

Never knew about Mark of the Ninja. Will give it a go.

Has anyone played it? What's it like?

its a brilliant steath em up that has you sneaking past guards, steath killing, and hiding in the shadows. you can pick it up for a few quid and its a good lenth game,.

I agree, Mark of the Ninja is an extremely enjoyable game and is short enough that it doesn't out-stay its welcome.

picked it up on steam over the weekend, havnt had a chance to play it,
what do you think of it?

I've got it on my wishlist at the moment. Cant be buying games so soon after the Steam sales! ;)

The general verdict seems to be that what is there at launch is okay, but that the value should really kick in once the community-created content begins coming out.
