So the Pimax arrived against all the odds... its ... interesting...
*I thought the FOV would blow me away but it didn’t.
* the resolution is nice but it seems on a par with the Odyssey.
* Right off the bat it’s obvious that this is very much an enthusiast piece of tech - certainly not plug and play. I enjoy tinkering so that not an issue, but if I’d bought it, rather than backed it I might be expecting a more polished set up experience. That said, it was perfectly manageable once I’d dusted off and set up the old vive base stations.
* Playing with FOV set to normal didn’t seem so much different from large and I didn’t really notice the distortion being mentioned at the edge of your vision.
* the blacks seemed perfectly fine
* headset is very light but the strap is rubbish. I believe they are sending a better one at a later date?
* unfortunately I have the dancing white pixel issue. Others seem to think it’s a cable issue but contacting pimax support is not the easiest thing to do! I can live with it but it’s still disappointing.
Overall I’m just not sure. The wider vision (I think) is perhaps disorientating as I’m so used to the binocular effect. I’ll keep going and see how I feel, but something feels off in my brain! The performance is great though on the 2080ti and it’s a lot more vibrant than I thought it would be.
I thought I’d be more pumped, but it’s been a long day at work and I’m grumpy and hungry so maybe that’s it! Lol
