There is a place for random rolls.

There is one place I can think of for the random roll system to exist logically. It's certain areas where humans can't perfectly predict the outcome. One of which could be flaws in materials like metals from production and smelting etc. These are real world issues and if ever simulated on this level at all, even in the slightest, they could be used to hash out real issues.. In fact I think they do like computer chips and sell it as cheaper if they know about the issue.(unless it's generally scrapped) So, it could be part of a closer to real world economic thing. It might add some more interesting aspects to an NPC driven economy or whatnot.

Anything think that would be interesting or know of other examples. In case it's not clear I'm referring to things like how certain subs/ships had potential metal fatigue or an unknown flaw in the initial parts that went undetected and eventually cracked etc.
