There's no going back, is there?

I've noticed that screen shots in the game don't look as good as they should when I'm in the Vive, so I retook them while running the game on the monitor. After I'd done so, I decided to just keep playing.

I lasted about 10 minutes before thinking, "How on Earth did I ever play like this?"

The tiny little window into the world of Elite. The inability to look out the windows easily. The sheer lack of being present in my Cobra's cockpit. :O The simple fact that I turned my head to look at one of the side panels. [woah]

Has anyone else gone back to 2D and found themselves eager to return to the world of three dimensions?

Oh boy, I ordered my Vive this week, it will arrive in about 20 days. I cannot be more anxious. I can't imagine how immersive it is! Good bye social life, good bye sun, see you all in the next life!

I started Elite with a DK2, and have over 1500 hours in it now... somewhere in there is a 5 min period where I tried to undock and leave a station, turned back around, redocked it and reconnected my Rift back up, the entire time thinking "how the hell can anyone play like this".. I only swap to the 2D screen now when taking high res images in solo and left alt +F10

same deal here :D i never looked back after trying the game in VR.

and on top of that, the game just cost me 1100£@TitanX :) i never thought i would buy one of thoes insanely expensive cards but i cant help myself! elite has to look even better :D

Got my Oculus a couple of days ago and realise that I've been playing flight/driving/space sims wrong for the last 30 odd years.

I'm never going back to flat screens...

Flat screen gaming still has its values, but none for ED.

I have pretty much higher given up taking screen shots and recordings I ED now.

It's not like the world desperately need more screenshots or videos of this game.

That is the main reason I am very hesitant to go the VR route.

I am also wondering what will happen when walking around is implemented. I don't want to get sick. And I don't want to have to switch back to monitor for walking around all the time.

So it is better for me not to get used to VR.

You know, I was the complete opposite, got a shiny new cv1 and a gtx1070 to power it, set up Elite, got it all up n running, thought hey this is a neat gimmick and went back to playing on a monitor.

VR just never really stuck for me, I was constantly very aware that I had a "thing" on my head. I much prefer a more relaxed way of playing, feet up, coffee in hand and Elite running in all its 4k loveliness :)

I'm eager to try VR but I can also appreciate the simple things. It'll be a while before I'll be able to afford a better setup. I have yet to get a stick. I also wonder how people are going to walk around. I saw some neat peddle things but that would still be kinda weird. Not as weird as standing up and walking around while wearing a laptop though.

Join the club. Isn't it nice to be able to max virtually all games out without issue.

Never looked back after ditching my 980ti SLI setup.

I did actually order 2 cards but returned one once it became obvious it wasn't necessary to SLI them. Maybe I'll pick another up in a few months when games become more demanding and definitely if SLI becomes usable in VR

I had my rift a few days ago, and will never go back to playing on a monitor. However, it has changed the way I play, it's less relaxed and drinking coffee has become an issue, I'm also now no longer happy just grinding between systems, I want to go out and see and do more stuff. VR completely changes the experience, it's amazing, if pixelated

VR in elite is awesome, but when it comes to actually playing out certain aspects of the game, such as grinding out materials for certain engineers/leveling up access, the need to swap out to eternal sites like inara / eddb means that I tend to just launch in desktop mode whilst I'm doing that.

Its always nice to actually hop back into the pilot seat when I'm done with that of course :)

Exactly this, got mine on Thursday and being an avid Sim Racer as well these games are just made for VR. Still need to tweak a few Rift settings to get Elite looking better I think though.

Playing with some settings and its running awesome in the Vive. I don't let the aliasing and some blurriness bother me too much. Both the Vive and oculus aren't perfect, but man what an experience. So glad I purchased one.

Elite is one of those games that benefits from VR immensely. Since getting my Vive back in April/May, I haven't looked back.

Although 4k has more detail, VR just 'feels' better. It provides insights and cues that you miss on a 2d screen.

For example I recently purchased a Cobra Mk III for cheap passenger missions as I didn't want to change my Vulture's loadout.

The first thing I noticed is how tiny the Cobra's cockpit is in comparison. In the Vulture the glass and ceiling tower above you, but in the Cobra you can literally reach up and touch it.

Never noticed this on a 2D screen.

There is a lot of value to seeing things as they are in 1:1 scale and only VR can give you that experience!

Unfortunately, I can't play Elite with my feet up. I need them to operate my rudder pedals. :)

I guess everyone has their own tolerance for the "thing" on their head. After about an hour wearing my Vive, I tend to forget what I'm seeing isn't real. Several times when playing around in Valve's Lab, I've forgotten that that table in the middle isn't real, and tried leaning against it to reach for something on the other side. Hilarity ensued. ;)

Personally I've come to terms with swapping in and out of VR to play Elite. Sometimes I'll settle in for a VR session, sometimes I'll go for a monitor session (with TrackIR). Everytime I start up Elite in VR I'm blown away by the immersive 3D nature of the experience and everytime I start it up on the monitor I'm blown away by the gorgeous, detailed, rock solid flicker free graphics. I fly around gawping at stuff (and not achieving very much) with the headset on, and I enjoy joining in with the fuel rats, consulting 3rd party websites and drinking hot coffee (or stronger beverages) with the headset off. It's a win win situation in my book!

just to finish a mission in time i might use the monitor setup instead, but not for dog figths or exploring. On the other side, using the monitor it reminds me how bad the HMD display is and that this and lens tech might be a constant upgrade path for a couple of years. So i hope a CV2 and VIVE2 are coming soon. A Sony HMD-VR for PCs with better/same resulution as CV1 or Vive1 would be an instant buy for me.
