These answers of Frontier, are they firm and definitive commitments ?

The planetary landings and the exploration of the spaceship and the space station, are they commitments included in the Kickstarter ? In the FAQ of kickstarter, there are two questions and two answers ... Do you Think that the formulation of these two answers are a concrete commitment to realize these two expansions, or just suggestions ?

  • Can I land on planets ?

  • Yes, but not in the initial release. Our aim is to make planetary landings a much richer experience than ever before and that requires considerable development effort. To achieve this we'll focus on landing on planets after the initial release.

  • Can I leave the space ship ?

  • Yes, but not in the initial release. The core release of the game focusses on the ships and space. We'll then be working to expand the game. This includes exploring your ship and space stations. The potential content for Elite is huge,so we're keeping a sensible strategy to add to the game in stages.

To me, yes that is a commitment. They are not saying, "maybe", or "perhaps". They are saying that these are things that will be added at some point after release.

I don't think that is open to interpretation, as the language isn't ambiguous in any way.

But there will be people (a few of them semantics trolls :D ) that will feel otherwise.

I don't think you should put that much thinking into it.

The game already has plenty backers, once the beta hits and people see this game how it really is, with all implemented features, even more people will come, and once it'll be released, it'll leave no space sim fan indifferent.

Its success is pretty much guaranteed, so I don't think we should worry about the expansions. David Braben is pretty cautious about it, almost pessimistic, but then you could say he's right to, what happened until now is already extraordinary and he shouldn't get carried away, but still I see no reason why it would stop now.

I don't doubt that they have every intention of adding these features to the game. They won't suddenly say actually no, that's not what this game is all about so it won't happen.

But, until they're in active development and we see it coming together, it's just an intention. Right now the only thing we know for sure is that they won't be in the game to start with.

Planetary landings are on the cards, just once they can made it a rich experience.

We do intend to release small, free updates after launch, but expansions that include significant new features and content will be charged for separately. For example, our current roadmap is to add (in no particular order): •Landing/ driving / prospecting on airless rocky planets, moons & asteroids
•Walking around interiors and combative boarding of other ships
•Combat and other interactions with other players and AIs in the internal areas of star ports
•Accessing richly detailed planetary surfaces
•Availability of giant ‘executive control’ ships to players

When someone says they intend to do something, you've got all the meaning you're going to get.

Whether or not they actually do it... is a question of integrity.

The game is a WIP and will be now, tomorrow and next year

Be happy for what you get and continue to thank FD

Sorry - but that's just how I feel - Thanks for all your work FD today, tomorrow.

and resources, technical ability, system limitations, etc etc....

But I have no doubt that planets will be in the game ...because they're already in the game according to DB.

They are doing this game in a timely fashion. This is how games used to be made.... instead promisimg every single feature from the get go like Star Citizen and essentially overloading themselves dev time wise and raising their backers expectations to a level that's un acheivable.

Saying is one thing. Actually doing it well is another. Id rather a feature not even be included if its just a half **** gimmick put in at the last second because "they said they would".

Sorry, those aren't commitments, especially KS ones. Those are promises, which may, or may not come true. Even KS commitments come with usual disclaimer.

What FD can't say that they never promised landings. However will they be able successfully to produce these features post-release is another thing entirely. Chances are high. It doesn't mean nothing can't spoil it.

Is there particular reason to believe they won't be trying hard to produce those expansions?
