I decided to head back from my trip, just in case of adverse effects when powerplay goes live. Nothing unusual with that? Just do big jumps, and the occasional scoop. What could possibly go wrong?
I had a run of unscoopable stars on the route. I know I can manually find one within range, but stuck with it to save plotting another route even thought I was getting pretty low. One star I landed on was one of the giants, but it had a close companion that was scoopable. Yay! The companion was actually showing as a shorter distance than the main.
I scanned both and flew to the 2nd one and started scooping. I was poking around on my mobile while filling up. Don't they warn you against that? I heard a warning alarm. Weird... I looked up, and saw my temps well into the danger zone and still rising! Oops... Flew out with module damage, and remembered to drop out of SC before repairing.
I'm pretty sure I wasn't too close to the 2nd star by itself, so I guess it must be the proximity of the 1st added to it that pushed temps sky high. I've heard of problems escaping close binaries before, but to actually fly into this problem...
