Think I'm going to clear save

Hi all, im going to start over today ![wacko]

I love the game and have over 700 million credits, Duke rank, Cutter, Anaconda and various other ships, Elite in trade and Deadly combat. But to be honest at times I don't feel like I have much to work towards.

And now I've played for over a year and know all about the game, I think it will be more fun to start again with all my experience, and to not make the same mistakes this time around.

Anyone else clear saved from a valuable career?

Now excuse me whilst I stare at the 'New Commander name' flashing cursor all day trying to decide on a name!

I cleared my save when 2.1 dropped and have to say it was a good decision. It's quite refeshing to start with nothing and work you way up again. With my two years experience it didn't take long to get back upto an Asp. But with the Sothis nerf it would take a bit longer to get there now.

Many commanders have reset from having billions and I've never seen an 'I regret what I did' thread over it.

Personally, I would regret it so I went Alex's route and bought a second account (Have never reset that one either though )

Owning every ship?

Engineering every ship you own?

Triple Elite?

Federation line?

Discovering your very own Black Hole? (giggity)

There is NOTHING for you to do in Eite?

Are you serious

Owning every ship? ...

Obviously nothing that interests the OP, not that surprising really ;)

on topic... good luck CMDR o7

I have been feeling like doing the same recently, but something is holding me back, not sure what.. maybe the grind ;)

This is why I want a second account - would love to start again but not lose the progress on the account I have incase I want some higher end gaming.

But getting expansions for 2 accounts is kinda a pain. I wish there was an option to have 2 commanders on one account, heck, I'd even pay for that. But oh well....

I didn't clear save but I did do something close to it after 2.1 dropped - I deliberately ran my credits down to below rebuy on my 'conda, did not alter my play style in the least and just waited for the inevitable... As it worked out the "final kaboom" happened during a buckyball run so there's my "exit in a blaze of glory" right there. Since then I'm back in a Cobra and thoroughly enjoying the rebuilding experience.

Ok but that's subjective, I could start the game, get a cobra mk3, OH thats it for me, nothing interests me appart from that, time to reset I guess.

Well yes sure, but obviously theres a ton of progress left to do, and from what it seems OP barely scraped 10% of it

I recently got a second account to fuss with, and it is quite interesting to start again in a Sidey. There's a lot of fun to be had at that stage, struggling to get some credits to upgrade your little ship.

However, I have no desire at all to delete what I've done on my main account. I really enjoy the freedom I have there, to do pretty much whatever I want. I spent a long time getting there and I'm not going to give it up. I would definitely regret it.

In the end, it's a personal decision. If you do it, I'm sure you'll have fun with it.

Good luck!

Agreed. I cleared my save 2 months ago. I used to be CMDR TheRunningMan. I had 100 million in the bank,a conda, Higher ranks too. But decided to reset. I wanted to have a bit of a story behind my new CMDR. Something I could write about. So I became Darkcloak. I did some skimmer missions and made 900k, bought a Hauler and headed out to Ceos. Made 200 million or so doing runs working my way up to a shieldless type 6. At certain times landing with less than 10% hull after being interdicted for my "tasty" biowaste. Now I have another conda with a fighter bay, and I'm back in a hauler exploring.

Or get a cheap 2nd account when it comes on sale? <- What I did :)

Thing is though, i'm not sure i'd use my original account again lol!

Well said MassiveD, good point fella, but i just love that starting fresh feel, and working my way up again. I'm almost at a point now where i'm a little burned out, but i know that starting again will have me hooked again (yeah i know right!? weird)
But it's like with GTA V, i love to regulary start a new campaign, just running around the hood as Franklin robbing cars, stores, and security trucks to get money before the Heists, is one of the best parts of the game imo! You know, it kind of reminds you of the first times you played it, i guess i just need to rekindle that new player experience :p

I didn't regret it.
In fact, I enjoyed the new start quite a bit! I like the feeling of all these goals still lying ahead and not behind me. I like the feeling of heaving to deal with abeyance and limitations.
However, I admit that at some point (well after I was in the multi-million range again), I wanted to try Sotis/Ceos before "THE NERF" and I used it to be able to afford and outfit my Python again.

Resetting the save has the advantage over a new account, that you still be able to use all your paint-jobs (if you own some) including the free black-friday livery. This was a biggy for me.

And by the way - there is no need to choose a new commander name (unless you want to). You will be able to re-use your current name.

Hey you know what......before i clear save i feel like spreading some love around (giggity; from me also )
Anyone want any free valuable cargo?
Is that still a thing? can i give cargo so cmdrs can sell it without prosecution? I think it would be wisest in Mobius right?! ;) My names not Sandro Sammarco :D

I can only recommend it. I cleared my save when Engineers hit.
I had an absolute blast going through all the ships and jobs with clean slate, once more.

As one knows what's what, it all progresses really smoothly and you can enjoy the ride. :)
I got back into a Cutter at some point during September and I am already thinking of doing it again. But first - Distant stars expedition. As it is a suicide mission with almost no chance to return, I am thinking of going full ironman and get out of there in style. :D

Good luck on the restart! I've done it around 2 dozen times since launch, latest was 2 weeks ago.
The things I've found most time consuming to get back are the Navy ranks. (I can't live without my Clipper!)

Credits are easy to come by, even without exploits. 'Stealing' police kills in HighRES is usually how I manage to get the 100 million back within a month or two - and ever since 2.1, I've also taken the high payout missions once allied with certain factions.

I've said it before when it comes up but that a soft reset might be the better option if you're not sure about it. That way your fleet and all you current progress with ranks and standings with factions aren't gone should you come to regret it. Just buy a bunch of ships to clear out you cash then buy a Sidewinder and get yourself killed. Declare bankruptcy and restart in your starting system. Job done.

That said, regardless of which path you go down, I'd advise you to wait for a few patches. The mission system is kinda bugged atm and Frontier are looking into straightening that out. I couldn't imagine starting over with the system as it is atm.
