Engineers Thinking about going Asp...

I used to fly Keelback, but lately I've been wondering about the Asp again. With all the possible upgrades, I can only imagine how much better it might be as a jack of all trades medium ship... Heck, you can even fortify its notoriously easy to hit powerplant.

any thoughts on how the Asp might change in Engineers?

I cannot speak for the Engineers changes, but I have flown both ships and the Keelback lasted about 2 jumps before being sold. The Asp has so much versatility.

The ASP is one of the few must have ships in the game, configured for cargo takes over a hundred tons, also has 6 weapon hard points, and the best exploration ship in the game with the possible exception of the Anaconda. It,s the king of versatility and only 6.5million Cr and this week only a free set of steak knives you wont be disappointed.

The Asp might be the ultimate ship with fully engineers upgrade:

- the agility of a vulture
- the speed of a Cobra (i think even more)
- the shield of a FdL (should be around 1000 mj with prismatic and 3 shield booster)
- the jump range of an Anaconda
- Extreme fuel tank
- lots of internals (you can tank like crazy if filled with reinforcement)
- best view of all ships
- has incredible DPS with 6 Overcharged Incendiary Mcs
Edit - also very cold. (you can push the powerplant as much as you like at engineers)

pretty much the ultimate balanced ship of ED, you can do everything in it, chase a fleeing target, escape from anybody, go to the opposite side of the galaxy, do any mission everywhere, and on top of all it's the favorite ship of mr Braben.

Edit: but i think it's the same conclusion with every balanced ship of ED, since they got no real weakness they have the most potential for global improvement when maxed. (Python, Clipper...), but ships that are cold on top of being balanced are the true winners.

Yeah I didn't bother owning one until 2.1. Now they are very useful ships to own. I have been using mine to do chain rare material runs all over the bubble and then hop back to Shinrata and start over. Works out nice for getting stuff like polonium.

i wish they had engine mods that would let you change the sound. that's my only complaint about the asp... oh and i wish the cobra mk4 would have been an asp E equivalent ... I just like the cobra brand better, but the asp E is just too good to pass up for the jack-of-all-trades playstyle

Yea i just did quick maths using more or less the same build prismatic + almost all shield booster on utility slots (minus 1), these 4 ships are now more than ever God tier once fully upgraded:

Medium pad
- Asp explorer: best for jump range ~1000 mj shield, around 35 Ly jump range
- Python: great firepower, maybe the most balanced of all ~1700 mj shield, around 22 Ly jump range

Big/Giant pad:
- Imperial Clipper: Fastest, great agility ~1300 mj shield, around 22 Ly jump range
- Imperial Cutter: very fast for the size (around 450 m/s by memory from beta), extreme firepower, agility is enough for gimballed but keeps high slide after boost: more than 9000 mj (God help us), around 21 Ly jump range

*almost god tier:
- Diamondback scout: very fast, supra maneuverable, great view, only its internals are very bad: around 620 mj shield, around 30 Ly jump range

To give people some kind of a standard in my FdL in beta i had around 2600 mj shield, so the numbers are right, but keep in mind that most of them are approximate and are based on maximum rolls (good luck grinding max rolls for a full ship).
In any case, these 4 are the God tier ships, and i really want a Cutter now xD i hope i will find the time and courage to grind the ranks.

Could you explain this for me? What does "chain rare material runs" mean? :)
