Thinking about switching to pc simply for HOTAS support.

I've finally got my desktop up and running, and while my intention wasn't to use it for Elite, the option to play with a HOTAS is calling to me.

Do any of the multi-platform crew have insight on the switch from controller, and is there any firm word from frontier on whether or not we can transfer save data between platforms?

There's no way to transfer save data unless they make an exception and do it manually for you I believe. I had a hotas setup before I switched to Xbox which was awesome but I chose a 65inch tv with surround sound and a recliner over a 20 inch monitor, headphones, and a hotas.

I've heard that before, but I remember someone saying that it was possible to submit a support ticket and get your data transferred. Part of me doesn't want to be that guy, that demands special treatment. Another part of me just really wants to have a HOTAS to up my immersion just that much more, and is willing to do whatever it takes to get that.

I'm probably going to end up sticking with the Xbox for now, given the fairly high cost of a decent stick and throttle, combined with the RAM upgrade that I'd want to do before diving into the PC version of Elite.

Thanks for the input. I'll try to remember to rep you the next time I'm not on mobile.

Really the just need to give hotas support on the Xbox. Kind of dumb that there is not, there's a few games that could benefit from it. It would probably even drive a few sales for Xbox since people wouldn't have to get a pc rig.

But yeah, just submit a ticket, worst they could do is say no.

I have good hopes the Scorpio will change things for us.

VR support AND, since Logitech took over Saiteck, maybe even HOTAS support.

Logitech did made Xbox steering wheels in the past so..

I considered making the leap as well, but since i know the Scorpio is coming, I wait, to see what happens.

Been wanting a HOTAS set up since I started following ED. Was thrilled when I saw ED came to Xbox One, but was surprised there wasn't some type of Joystick for flight sims. I've hit up Saitek, Thrustmaster and Microsoft on this recently. There was still less than 500 requests on the Xbox Live forums for any kind of HOTAS set up. From the news I've heard of Logitech buying out Saitek, I will have to hit them up next with requests. More need to voice their opinions on this. I suggested an adaptor to allow the current HOTAS setups to work if possible rather than having to design an complete system.

But I've planned on going the Gaming PC route next year just to get a HOTAS set up and VR. If more info on Project Scorpio starts leaking, I may wait on that. Maybe it will be HOTAS compatible.

In the mean time, fellow XBOX One people, jump in the forums of these companies and bug them for HOTAS. I find it hard to believe X1 doesn't have it already.

I'v already requested at the xbox feedback site asking for the drivers to be added, its strange that it does not have it but the PS4 has.

Here the link if any body wants to vote just search Hotas, plus there is other stuff to vote for xbox.

Being a dual platformer I find it very easy to switch between the HOTAS Thrustmaster X and the Xbox One controller. I only recently moved to the PC platform, despite owning Elite on the PC before the Xbox version was even released into the GPP. So after about a week of playing both systems, I can recommend this setup for the Thrustmaster X, assuming that's the HOTAS you're planning on getting:

It's worth pointing out that I couldn't get the controls to work via the download - it installed to the correct folder and showed up in the list of available control configurations, but actually they made no changes at all to the actual controls, so I set this up manually. It didn't take too long and I find them very intuitive. They could use a little adjusting for personal preference, but it is a good base set of controls to get you going

This.
I used to be a pc gamer with hotas, rudder pedals, the whole shebang.
Sitting in my recliner playing on a 50" plasma tv and 5.1 surround sound beats it ten times over.
Plus I got sick of having to upgrade my pc every other year with incredible pricey stuff like cpu's motherboards, memory and videocards.

Hotas is cool, but not that cool imho.

The benefit to having box the Xbox and the PC is that you can play the PC version while the wife is watching her TV shows.

I I would also like to point out that if you have the PC version, you can play on both a monitor and on a TV with the same save file, simply by connecting the computer to the TV. You can even use SteamLink if the wires won't work their way to the PC. You can use an Xbox one or Xbox 360 controller with the PC and have it setup exactly like the one on the XBox One version of the game.

Simple.

I spent close to £2000 buying an Alienware lappy and hotas setup so I could play elite whilst working away from home having originally played on the Xbone.
Six months later I'm just as hooked but the hotas makes so much difference for me I use the lappy at home and the Xbone is gathering dust, this has the added bonus of freeing up my tv too multi tasking is sooooo easy

I think the OP should definitely ask FDEV to transfer their commander over. If there's enough demand, it might be something they can automate in the future, if not just downright make the profiles always cross-platform.

Peraonally, it's the VR that entices me to the PC world, but I wouldn't be interested in starting over.

I have asked and I have submitted a support ticket many weeks ago. In general, they will move ONLY your total assets over to the PC.

This comes with a cost however, as after they move your assets over they reset your Xbox CMDR.

needless to say, I said NO to that. I am not going to loose my rear admiral/Duke CMDR in my Xbox just to get a 1.7 bil head start on th PC.

Here is the support ticket response in case anyone is interested.

Hi xxxx,

Thanks for getting in touch. We are able to transfer your Xbox One commander's total net worth in credits; a total of your ship values and credits on your account.

The transfer does come with several conditions that we need you to look at before agreeing to proceed with the transfer, including:

We can only transfer wealth (credits) from an account. DLC, Frontier Points, rank, merits, cargo and other in-game progress made cannot be transferred and will have to be re-earned or repurchased.
Wealth transfer can only be done once and cannot be reversed.
After confirmation, your CMDR on your prior platform will be removed and cannot be restored.
After confirmation, the CMDR on your chosen platform will have their credit value updated.

If you're happy to proceed after careful consideration of the points above then let us know and we'll make the transfer.

Hrrmmm, yeah, not worth the trouble. I'm not much interested in credits, as those are easy to come by. It's the ranks that have value.

Still, something for us to keep after them about. I'm not sure why the PC and Xbox commanders can't be cross compatible information if the BGS can be.

Thanks for posting that. I'll definitely have to think about it, then, since I really don't want to have to grind for rear admiral again, and I'm nearly to Elite in Exploration.

+1 Rep to you sir, for the hard information.
