Thinking of buying the game, but first questions

I am thinking of buying the game as i have played Elite on C-64 and Frontier first encounter on PC.

Is there docking aid or is this like in the first Elite where you had to be lucky to guess the angle and hope that you dont crash as you dock?

Is Joystick a must or can i play with keyboard and mouse?

I hope you can play solo, i would love if one can play offline completly. I am not that keen on cooperation like in EVE, because i actually want to do other stuff also.

When it comes to the ships. Are the ships prefitted when one buy them or do i have to spend hours fitting them just to see them getting blown away five minutes later?

AFAIK there were no vertical/lateral thrusters in original elite which made manual docking incredibly hard. Its pretty easy in ED.

Docking is manual, but you can buy a docking computer. It's not really as difficult as it was back in the days.

A joystick is not a must, but I'd really recommend one. Much more fun with flightstick and throttle.

Solo online and fully offline is possible.

Ships are semi pre-fitted. Fitting is still very basic at the moment.

Docking is incredibly easy , but its a bit like flying a plane.
Either you are a born natural or you're not.
Some people can pick up landing with the snap of the finger , some may struggle for weeks. So I can't say how good you'll land until you've actually tried flying it.

For me , I've been playing FSX , WarThunder and ride a motorcycle so my hand-eye coordination is still up to par.

Yes , you can play solo like a spaz if interacting with people scares you.

Ships are commonly prefitted with the bare basics but you'll want to upgrade it if you intend to do any sort of combat.

You will Love Elite Dangerous

I and many others here remember playing our Hearts away on the BBC B and the Commodore 64. I would say that there has not been another game that has been as fulfilling as Elite and this iteration brings back many a fond memory. If Multiplayer/PvP is not your personal forte, the there is a Solo mode (although at this point you will need an online connection to do so). Solo play even offers a Friend's mode where you can play without having to worry about PvP. There is still AI Pirates to present a challenge. Docking is not that difficult in my own humble opinion. If you have a POV/Hat Switch on a Flight Stick it really becomes a snap once you get the feel of it. So just take the plunge and enjoy Elite Dangerous with the rest of us. :)
