Thinking of getting a WMR headset but can i play elite on it?

Im thinking of getting a WMR headset to play elite on but from what it seems this isn't possible, does anyone else have any info on if elite will run?

(i know steam vr will be supported but i hate steam and would rather buy a rift than use it)

AFAIK, SteamVR will be compatible with WMR and is in Beta phase, if you can render SteamVR you can play Elite on it. By the way, I have an Oculus Rift and I always run ED using the option play game with SteamVR, run smooth and flawless!

Ive used steam VR on my PC with a rift and elite and it was the most annoying thing to use, ive tried it recently on a gaming laptop which is marketed for VR and steam VR says it doesnt meet the requirements (and its better spec than my pc) so im just staying clear of anything to do with steam.

If elite wont support WMR headsets i guess ill get a rift

Elite requires a monster machine in vr regardless of type or make of headset.
This will sadly not change.

Mixed reality has lower specs because I'm sure they consider most of the actual perceived environment to be a direct camera feed not a virtually generated environment.

I would not expect steamvr games to have lower requirements than with the vive or oculus.

Requirements are not an issue because i can run it in VR, i just want to know if elite will support WMR before i get one (reason i want a WMR is because it has a higher chance of being compatible with xbox when they announce VR support for it and the fact it doesn't require sensors)

Elite can be played with SteamVR without having bought the game through Steam. I bought my game from the Frontier Store and it can still hook up with SteamVR.
