Thinking of restarting

So im conisdering restarting my Char. I have been playing since Beta and play sporadically due to work, Kids and my GF's having me suddenly remodel the kitchen O_O. I only got me a Cobra and a handful of creds im not very highly ranked. But alot has changed and i've learned a little bit (still not hot on my keybinds and buttons do what) Ive never been happy wiht my CMDR name , Its the name i go by in most games but for this one i feel a more "realistic" name is in order. Also im considering playing as the game intends no market tools etc etc. Inspired by some Youtube videos. Trying to live in the game world this time around.

I play Open but don't know anybody who plays so no loss there.

I was just wondering how other people are feeling about their existence in the universe etc.

I restarted about a month ago.

It was a great move Id been on this mission to get the biggest ship I could

Now I max out a ship until if find its limits and then move up a sidewinder maxed is an ace little ship same for a cobra

its great in a cobra fighting an Asp or a weak python and having a 15 minute fight so much more fun than blasting a ship to smithereens in 10 seconds before moving to the next
Personally I can highly recommend the restart you appreciate the smaller ships all the more

Until a month ago I hardly understood outfitting a ship - outfitting to me was adding cargo space and a bigger FSD to carry more further

I'm not going to ever delete my save or restart, but I have wanted to fake a restart. To fake a restart I would buy a sidewinder and put it in the garage, then buy the biggest ship / modules I could until I was real low on credits. Then I'd buy palladium / other trade goods until I was close to 1,000 and jettison it. Put the ship in storage and hop into the sidewinder.

As for restarting just because of your name? That's not something I'd do. I'm in too deep. But if you're in a Cobra I think you should restart for your desired name and with your current knowledge you should be back in a cobra by the weekend.

I was in a similar position about a month back and ended up buying a second account. Gone from moneybags trader to start-from-scratch Sidewinder. No pre-purchase bonuses, and for the additional challenge I fly FA-off outside of stations (inside stations flying FA-off is just too irritating to countenance at the moment). Focus for me is on fighting, and because I'm not trading there's none of the blanket "every faction likes you" that you get when you sell lots of stuff to Empire and Federation stations.

It's certainly given me a different focus on the game, and I haven't touched my initial account since except to check out beta. If you can afford a second account then do it. If not then yeah, wipe. You won't regret it.

I've been considering doing this and treating every ship destruction as an actual death. New name, new start every time. Its how I expected the game to work anyway. And now that everything has been made easier/cheaper and without consequence it would actually add a more meaningful challenge.

I was also considering the FA Off this time around. Trying to make it more interesting as far as immersion is also a big goal.
Its funny i mentioned to my GF that in game its funny how different people react. We have this giant playground that while limited to some you can really try to be anything you want. i dream of piracy or of combat etc but i end up trading. everyday the same thing to make ends meet...this is pretty much my real life. its funny how my alternate version of me is me. I feel there is something to peoples behaviors in game and there needs to be a study :)

I also have the restart-thought in my mind for while but I need a good reason for that.
I would happily reset my save if I saw a major content injection which transforms ED to a real game.
Until then I keep the old save but not logging in really for a good while now.

I think they should have given all the beta backers a free character rename token.
Because when I started playing the beta I didn't really expect to keep that character for release....
