Thinking of switching

Greetings my PC Overlords, X box peasant here.

So I'm a bit fed up waiting for horizons to appear on the xbone as well as no HoTaS support or being able to bind keys etc.
I've therefore decided to teach Frontier a lesson and purchase the game for a second time for the PC (probably).

My questions are these:
I have a i5-4690k @3.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce 750 Ti. which I currently only use for work, Is this good enough to run the game well?
Secondly key bindings, can you bind different pip settings to separate keys?

Thanks in advance for replies.

Hi there,

I am not sure if the system is up to the job. You might want some more memory and a better graphics card to improve things.

With reference to pips, it is more an adjustment rather than a fixed configuration. The normal keyboard options is that left arrow sends pips to the SYS (which includes shields), up arrow sends then to ENG, right arrow to WEP, and down arrow returns to 2 pip default. If you get a HOTAS stick, the default configuration is that the hat stick does the same (I have an X52, with a total of 3 hat sticks, which both makes things simple AND complicated!).

Memory and CPU is fine, you could do with a better GPU to run settings at ultra with a high resolution. Regarding pips, if you are going down the PC route - consider Voice attack, it would allow you to do pretty much whatever you want ingame via voice or keyboard shortcuts/macros.

I have multiple variations of pip management programmed.. Incredibly easy to configure voice attack. http://www.voiceattack.com/

Hey

Got similar i5 2500, 6gb ram and a gtx 750ti and it runs everything fine, including horizons / planets. A few small tweaks like shadows not on max at its smooth as!

I've got the same GPU and the rest of my pc is worse than yours. It'll run fine and look better. As for pip-settings: not natively, but you can with VA. You basically 'program' a series of pip-changes that'll always work. For example, if you want engines=4, weapons=2, you can tell VA to hit rightkey four times, followed by up four times, in a fraction of a second. The end result is that when you press one key in-game, VA will press a whole bunch of keys for you and you immediately have the settings you want.

Depends on the screen :) Your PC should be fine at 1920x1080, but if you have a bigger screen (2560x1600 or similar) then it might struggle. My GTX 690 is not too happy at that resolution although it does just about cope.

If that machine is running without a load of garbage in the background and you are sensible with your settings you should be fine. How much memory on that GPU though. ED/Horizons seems to really do well with higher GPU memory in my experience.

you can play with that system but on lower settings, and it may get a bit rough if you land on a planet. (i've been playing for a year on a 650, no issues. i7, though, and not on horizons).

as for pips, you can bind "pips to sys/eng/wep" (this means one pip at a time is transferred) and "pips reset". some people get 'all pips to weapons' behaviour with external keyboard macros and/or voiceAttack.

if you like this game i definitely recommend playing on pc.

I think it should be no Problem with your system specs to change :)

But I am not sure if you teach FD a lesson with that ^^

Have almost the same setup, only difference was 760 gpu. With that card i had around 30 fps on planets with high settings. Now i have 970 and everything runs great on ultra.

That system is just fine and dandy, no need for 980's or Titan-X's. ED uses (according to my Task Manager) roughtly just a notch over 1 GB of RAM.

My GPU gobbles around 4300 Mb of VRAM, I even had it on 5100 Mb at one point. The RAM used by the game are a minimum.

Your system is perfectly fine, Sniper Fish.

Welcome to the dark side, where our load times are short & our draw distances long. :D
