I got a lot of rep and critism for my Second Impression post in the beta forum where I was blunt about the engineers and I think I owe a third impression a litte less blunt.
FD has made elite better with this update. Still not everything is gold but the direction seems to be ok. I am doing stuff in game that I never actually did before and some of it is fun but some is still weird. Scanning wakes just to get data is weird in a context of a future setting. Data can be copied and I would think scientist would have tested the outcome of the FSD stuff to a high extend already but ok some things has to be like it is, at least I for the first time installed a wake scanner
Engineers are grindy but well at least this one gets me around and not always at the same place. I actually tried Signal sources for a change. This of course and just be attributed to doing something new. I do have some fun but I am not grinding in a certain direction but just playing and taking whats thrown at me. At least this new content is, other than powerplay, feeling like something that is an addition to the game. If the engineers will also give out quests in the future it would be even better.
Ai behaviour of the NPC are not as bad as I thought. I gave it a casual approach in thread 1 Signal sources and Nav Beacons and there is was manageable in my A-class Asp. I even scooped the loot up manually as I forgot to put some limpets in cargo. However I do actually like the manual approach as limpets also get you illegal cargo and within all that security this could lead to desaster if scanned at the wrong point
NPC are harder but it is really a rank feature. If the npc is high expect some serious kick ass. People need to be more selective who to pick a fight with. However the requirements for elite need to be toned down.
Ships outfits need more thought now. You cannot get away with just stacking shield boosters now you seriously need counter meassures like chaff, ecm or point defence. Glad this things make sense now.
I am a keybourd casual fighter who focuses more on exploration and trade stuff Master/Elite/Eilte in solo or group mode, so I fought some NPC but never gotten to a state that I consider me a good fighter pilot. I think the NPC are still manageble besides the occasional uber npc but it needs some adapting from players.
The main critism I still have is that there is no storage. I think this needs to ba adressed with priority now.
