This is always a Steam issue. I'm glad to see they might have a way to automatically fix it now. The old way of unlinking via Frontier, then re-linking via Steam was a hassle.

That, along with other issues, made me a strong opponent to playing ED via Steam. ED and Steam are both great, I just refuse to use them together.

long time ago as soon as i down loaded elite from steam i linked to frontier never had a problem only use steam for updating game its faster.
That hasn't been a Steam option for many years. I believe it changed around March/April 2019. If ED was purchased from Steam after then, it must be launched from Steam. If it was purchased before then, it might still be possible to launch ED standalone.

OP may or may not be able to launch ED without Steam, depending on their particular circumstances. My first ED purchase from Steam was late 2019, so I never had that option.

At least the Steam/Frontier combo is very comfortable now when it comes to alt accounts. No more need to change Steam accounts for that, one launcher to "rule them all" so to speak... 🤭 Just logout from the launcher and relog with another account. When doing this the first time one has to go through the Frontier mail authentification tough... 🤷‍♂️

Sad that this doesn't work with Epic accounts, too...

I am experiencing the same issue today. Fact is, I bought Elite Dangerous on the Frontier Store. Beta Premium backer since 2014. what is this?
you need to unlink account from steam and download the standalone launcher from the my products page of the frontier website
if using the steam launcher then it stands to reason your loggin in through steam...............

download link to launcher purchases made b4 april 2019 or directly from frontier developments only

I'm having this issue today. I bought the game on Steam years ago, and it's not recognizing the account when I try to launch.Normally this issue gets easily resolved by logging in and out of the Frontier Store web page and deleting browser cookies, then logging back in. This time that doesn't work. I deleted cookies, I deleted cookies of all browsers, I cleared temporary files using disk cleanup, I verified game files in Steam. Nothing works. The game has forgotten that I own Elite Dangerous and refuses to launch. EDIT: Now I've also tried unlinking and linking my Steam account, and nothing has changed.

At the same time, Frontier's Issue Tracker site is broken for me as well. I can get into the site, I can log in with my FD account, but I can't load any issues, my own or anyone else's.

Never ever used the Steam client to launch Elite. Only used the launcher from the Frontier Store. The issue was resolved by changing one of the settings on the launcher, can't remember exactly what now, but something to do with caching.

ya if i get any issues with the mini limited internet explorer 11 based browser that is the frontier launcher...........

i type internet options into windows start run that an delete the cache content therein via the delete button and tick boxes
if that dont fix it it's a" there end fault"
