This Game Continues Surprising Me!!!

After making over 300,000 creds trading I decided to go and explore one of the unknown signals and see what adventures I could have. I was in the Eranin system so I chose the planet furthest from my location Eranin 4 and headed towards it in supercruise.

It wasn't long before I spotted an unknown signal so I targeted it and changed course. On dropping out it was a large number of cargo containers. I had never used the cargo scoop so after much trial and error I managed to scoop two containers, they contained grain that showed as stolen. I thought nothing of this and decided to set off again towards Eranin 4.

A little while later I got an interdiction and readied for combat just in case. It turned out to be three Vipers for the security services and I thought not a problem they will scan and I'll be on my merry way.

They closed to scan then alarms went off and I had a bounty on my head for carrying stolen goods it was the grain I'd picked up so innocently. I retracted my weapons and ran and managed to get back into supercruise as they started to open fire.

Now I was wanted in Eranin so I headed to Ibootis to pay of the fine. Just as I was about to jump I got interdicted again, I thought it would be the Vipers but it turned out to be a lone Eagle so I waited and they flew past and scanned me then they started to attack. I realised too late that they had spotted my wanted status and wanted the bounty.

Again I was under attack and I'm not the greatest in combat so I again ran and by the skin of my teeth managed to jump to Ibootis.

I arrived safely at Chango Dock the station in Ibootis and then I remembered my stolen cargo and worried what might happen if I got scanned on the way in. I decided to dump the grain outside the station and dock safely.

It all worked out well I docked and paid the fine and learnt a valuable lesson, I just worry about the poor soul who collects that stolen grain in all innocence and learns the same lesson the hard way.

This was my first non trading gameplay and it was a real adventure, it would be great to hear everyone else's adventures.

Nice story :). If you'd made it inside Chango, you could have sold the stuff in the black market (it is one of the few stations where you have black market contacts).

Any time you pick up cargo you didn't buy, that is theft :). However, there are two things in the design discussion that might be implemented later

-- we might be able to apply for salvage rights within certain systems / jurisdictions so that we can scoop cargo legally

-- there might be people in pirate bases who can scrub the cargo free of their stolen status for a fee

I wondered this, too. The one time I ran stolen cargo into a starport, my finger was hovered over the 'end' key the whole time. Didn't have to hit it, though.

I made the mistake of picking up some cargo outside of chango dock and trying to land in there (figuring it had a black market, so what was the problem, right?). Big mistake--got scanned and blown up.

Good thing I was still in a Sidewinder. :D

Was it grain? If so it could have been the cargo I dropped earlier.

I was in Freeport earlier today and there was loads of gold floating around so I helped myself in my sidewinder for a few runs (luckily Freeport has a black market) until I could afford a haulier and then did a few more runs, I now have 200k to play with! I can now buy back my cobra that I lost at Dahan

Oh my! Trading is really not for me then. :)

On the other side, you'll have great fun I presume, finding out the more interesting parts of ED.

I love the unexpected but at the moment the range of events is a bit small as the game moves forward I'm sure things will get more interesting.

Oh I thought this is what the cargo scanner is for... you scan the floating barrels in space, then you can scoop them up without becoming a criminal... I never tried it though...

The cargo scanner is for scanning other ships cargo. If they are caring illegal cargo they will turn wanted and you can claim the bounty on them. You could also use it to pirate and determine if they are carrying something worth being wanted for.
