This game is brutal

Tonight was not a good night.

Trying to rush due to limited time (alarm bells are ringing for some already). I boost in towards the station.....damn! - I'm coming in too hot. I try to put the brakes on but it's too late - I've missed the slot and some how become entangled in the cage. Help!.... I can't go forward or backwards - I try to manoeuvre but I'm stuck fast. The station warning announces for loitering. Eeek! - how the hell am I gonna get out of this? I know - I'll save and exit right?......No chance - I get the message that "my ship is in danger" and can't quit. Another 30 seconds later and the station opens up on me and my Asp gets splattered all over the cage.

I reload and pay my insurance (600k), lament the loss of my full hold of auto-fabricators and the several negative reps with factions that I've just failed to complete delivery missions for. As I exit the station and think about how I'm going to make back the credits I suddenly get hailed as a "criminal". Oh no! - did I forget to pay those fines I was given for loitering? I guess so because the station opens up on me. Several boosts and same evasive manoeuvres later I manage to enter sc with my hull at 29%. Another 148k to repair the damage and I limp off to run some rares.

I think I went backward farther n one night than all the progress I made in one week but I'm hooked and this game is brilliant!

Well i had one instance flying an type 6 with 104 rare goods enterin space station looking for a landing pad and realising i forgot to ask for landing clearance 1.6 milion in profit lost and the price of a complete A level upgrade on al systems and 2 milion of reflective armour .

But thats the game and It keeps your brain sharp.

I love this game 30 years ago we played it on the old c64 and now we can enjoy the game again.

That's one of the qualities of the game for me, being able to make those mistakes and moving on with better knowledge.

It's still amusing to hear gunshots in a terminal, knowing someone made a mistake or are just learning the ropes.

The last two days nothing has gone right for me, I've lost a fortune through various things and now I've resigned myself to do a clear save and start again.

Being the type of person I am I too make mistakes, probably more than some. Boosting into a station :/ Trying to boost out :/ Thinking taking on an elite anaconda in a ship that is obviously to under-equipped is do-able :/

lol love it tho, I might have spent just as much money on insurance as I have made but I dont care, I dont need to raise my ego by boasting I own a massive ship or im the best pilot. I am happy enough in my shiny new cobra just mooching around the place! :D

2 out of the 6 first days in my let's play have been complete disasters, losing money and other fails left, right and centre.

I never had this trouble in beta :p

I like the harshness, the game still isn't hard enough for me, just grindy. I don't mind the grinding as I like perfecting routine, I still give myself a high-five for a wicked landing for the 500th time. But it could be harder, flight wise I can do something about it by spending the rest of the game in flight-assist off...that will get the sweat flowing hahaha!
If your reaaaalllly into self-inflicted grief, go flight assist off inside an asteroid field on the dark side of a planet. All you see is the bright sky and the flat black shapes of asteroids. Your lights illuminate the asteroids about...oooh...2 seconds before impact..
Sorry about your Asp, I have made some risky decisions with mine, such as buying it and having to work my way back from 50k until I could at least afford insurance. I had a few close calls..but I already learned this lesson on my cobra..may it rest in pieces.

I've had a number of times where I've had to step away, muttering some choice words :D

And look, I came back every time! It's fantastic :)

maybe we're all masochists.

She's a hard mistress and unforgiving. She demands all of you, and makes you strive with every fibre of your being. She pulls you in and rides you hard, and leaves you a withered husk. And like a siren, she beckons for more. But what a ride. What a ride...

Yes, well, had a very similar day - took my Freagle (slightly upgraded) out for the very first time for some light bounty hunting and promptly got smoked by the local Federation enforcers as a "freebooter". I can only assume that I accidentally grazed some innocent whilst I destroyed three pirates. Lost *thousands* of exploration data along with the bounties I'd collected killing the pirate scum. A person with a better social life might have taken things worse than me! I think you just gotta shrug your shoulders, and get into the insurance replacement!

Last night i had a most fruitful night of profiteering only to end it slamming my mk3 into a station, swiftly proceeded by another disintegration courtesy of a $/$$"=÷ stupid npc in a type 9 teaching me what a slam should be.

totally frustrating and wiped out days of cash.

BLISS !
