i quite like this game lol, because sometimes its hard to gain money and make your way in the galaxy.

Me thought that since everything was toned for the multiplayer side of the game, it would be easy to make your ways , but not really.

doing things take time, and even doing trade runs, i dont make much profit per runs.

its quite nice.

yeah, a addict player that plays like 60 hours per week probably can grind very high quite fast, but its still realistic .

The game is indeed aimed at a mature and hardocre audiance , but... the combat AI is.... weak... you can take on the best AI ships with your starter ship , hope that changes

At first I also thought it was hard. I was just flyin around in my sidewinder... tryn to bounty hunt some small fish, when I just hit couple anacondas and got like 200ks moneys, after some more I cashed in got my eagle did more got the viper and voila, about 1 1/2 month later I sit on a pile of 60 Million credits earned only from bounty hunting(plus some warbonds) & CGs

so you just need to see how you can get your game going

I have a heavily annotated rare run here: http://ranum.com/fun/projects/elite/ from back in the days when you couldn't plot long distances. It's actually pretty handy because you can just jump off the chart and not have to mess around in the galaxy map.

Edit: the rares run I designed avoids the popular griefer spotsl I dunno what the situation is like in all those systems nowadays but back when I was running it, I never encountered a CMDR pirate.

I'd say the game is more time consuming than hard. You know that bounty hunting is going to get you somewhere around 1.5 million/hour, and that it's not worth trading until you have a T7 (unless you want to!) for just that reason. After that, you can look at about 2300 or so per ton for trading, since bounty hunting doesn't scale but trading does.

ED really is the grindiest of grinds - should you choose to play that way. That said, I love it. :)

Yup. I love this game.

Making you way in the world today takes everything you got. Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away? Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows you name. And they're always glad you came. You want to be where you can see our troubles are all the same. You want to be where everybody knows you name.

Excellent attitude Commander, you will go far with your Hauler..

It's not for the casual gamer.

I disagree. It's self inflicted torture for anything but the casual gamer. Once you get a mid sized trading ship and fighter ED becomes a grindathon.

And grinding (either trading or RES farming) is anathema. So for me playing ED has become a test of how little time I can spend to earn the most.

That's a bit unfortunate Commander Jaeger.
It's not so much about the money for me, it's definitely a consideration, but not a primary objective.
I go through phases of varying professions, currently deep space exploration has become very addictive.

Discovered some amazing stuff, seen some awesome sights..

I'm not in a hurry to get ELITE rank x3 or Fully kitted Annie.

Maybe flying my own spacecraft through uncharted remote star systems thousands of light years from colonised space is enough to keep me happy.
Maybe I'm just easily pleased like that.. :)

Quantum Mechanics is hard. Learning to play the violin is hard. 3000 tonnes of Iron is really hard. While this game can seem intimidating at first, it is actually REALLY easy, and making hordes of cash is also quite easy. Learn to farm RES in a sidewinder, learn to sun dive without getting burned and how to use a disco scanner in "unknown" systems, learn how NOT to do the low profit missions or trade cheap goods in small volume, and most of all, learn how to dock without painting the space station with your nice new ship. You will be riding a Vulture in a few days tops, and then the galaxy is your oyster.

I think I'm an average gamer. Enough time to be meaningful, good enough that I don't suck. If I get interdicted by a player I can usually kill him or make my escape unless I'm up against a wing or I'm very outclassed. Smart enough to trade and make money, patient enough to explore, though I refuse to do the Sag A* run or farm the neutrons fields.

And six months after launch I'm in a python, I'm a Lord in the Empire, though mainly that's because I have that stupid 'can't get past the summerlands bug', friendly with the Feds. I have some rep, discovered a lot of stars and planets.

Yes, this game is hard, you can't get to the endgame in a couple of weeks. And really there is no endgame. Unless you fly without insurance.

Heh, what you call grinding was the gameplay that made Elite '84 a classic. We didn't call it grinding then. Just playing.

Depends what you mean by "casual". If you mean people who want a game that is easy to learn and holds the player's hand then yes, it's probably not for them. However although there is a steep initial learning curve, once that is overcome the game is well designed for occasional, casual play.

There's truth in that actually. Even with a family and my playtime limited to when my wife's away or they're in bed, it holds up pretty well. Unlike EVE, I pretty much had to leave that or not get married.

I am fairly casual with Elite, especially compared to some of my old gaming addictions. I just pootle along, doing a bit here, a bit there and enjoying taking a leisurely pace to the game. Not logged on for a few days due to work and I am not champing at the bit to get back, I will when I have time and a day off. :)
