This game needs a real anti-aliasing setting

It needs some native AA cause that temporal TAA is just awful. It makes the game blurry. I don't know why they didn't give the PC an option for MSAA. I don't usually use the AA settings in my GPU's control panel cause from my experience they don't work well. They either don't work well or they don't seem to work at all.

I don't know why this game lacks any true native AA option. It looks so much better with the TAA off. But then you get horrible jaggies.

I am guessing this was done because of consoles. It's a bit ridiculous IMO to do that to PC gamers.

Considering none of the games with the Cobra engine have proper AA, and it has been asked for in the Elite forums for ages, I guess there is some technical reason. :( For the record, it was already so before it was ported to consoles. In the end I just run at higher res and downsample, but its kinda silly.

I am just going to stick to using the regular TAA. At least I don't have the horrible jagged edges when I use it and it doesn't cause as much blur effect as the upscaled TAA, which is what I was using. It's not as bad with the TAA.

TAA is the best AA you can get Kid.

MSAA does not work with deferred rendering -- you have the same problem with other modern engines - UE4 in particular. If there is no setting to adjust the influence of TAA, and if you have tons of GPU cycles to spare, you could activate DSR in the NVidia control panel (or whatever equivalent you may have for other brands), to do full screen AA (otherwise known as "supersampling").

(DSR will offer you larger screen modes to select in game settings - these larger rendered bitmaps will then be downsampled to the native resolution of your screen, for not just smoother edges, but more detail overall. Actually... Elite offers supersampling, itself, amongst its settings, removing any need for gfx driver side trickery; Maybe JWE does, too?)

Maybe because I'm running 1440p and Ultra I don't see the blurring. I will take a look again later today. Temporal AA is supposed to be the better AA though. Maybe it depends on the game or other settings... blurriness doesn't sound right.

Took a few screenshots in game. Honestly, I don't notice much of a difference between any of them, maybe you have a better eye for this sort of thing. I definitely don't see any blurring. Keep in mind the photos are in 1440p.

Edit 1: Actually, I do see a difference now that I can see them side by side and do see the blurring. I need to edit the titles, I mixed up a couple of them.
Edit 2: Okay, titles fixed. TAA looks the best close up with an obviously lesser amount of aliasing and no blur. I'm not convinced another form of AA could do better than TAA is doing in this game.

TAA is ok. Upscaled TAA causes way too much blur.

Compared to Elite I am quite happy with the edge smoothing in JWE because there is not that much edge flickering as in Elite. Nethertheless JWE is a bit GPU hungry. :D
