This game should be free to play

There is literally nothing to do here so far.
Average of 2500 players online doesn't look good either.
I bet 100k euro that if this game went free to play, with cheaper purchase options we would have on average 10k players here.
Idk if posting here names of other games is ok. But if you look at top f2p games on steam list you will see for yourself that many games that are far more interesting in gameplay than this, plus offer much more content.
Making this game f2p even just for pvp arena mode would work great.

It is free to play, you buy it then you never have to spend anything to play, so cost to purchase, free to play!

It's $9.99 for the "Deluxe Edition" (All 3 major paid expansions included) on Steam right now. I find it hard to believe that price is what's keeping people from playing.

They had a free weekend for the arena mode a while back. That they never had a second one probably tells you how successful that was in converting into paying customers.


Similarly when the game was made available on the Epic store in late 2020, Epic paid Frontier to make the game free on introduction. About 8 million accounts (roughly twice the total purchased up to that point) got created then ... and while there was a bit of a boost in player activity, it certainly didn't triple it and in practice it mainly seems to have been existing players picking up a bunch of alts.


The sales figures they publish indicate that roughly 300-400,000 people buy the game each year. That most of them aren't playing right now has other causes.

Yeah, never did them myself, but that's the beauty of this game, there's so much to do missing out on stuff shouldn't bother you at all.......but there's always one or two around aren't there!

If FDev are going to constantly bring hot fixes out and now a large patch and planets still arnt rendered, why not just scrap the game.

If they were good enough at selling cosmetics they would make money. The premise of selling content piecemeal is really something that should only be in F2P games anyway. Elite has always struggled with its identity in this regard, and it's not totally unreasonable for OP to think the way he does.

The issue is people only buy cosmetics for games they care about where they have a certain amount of investment in the game they're playing. OP seems to think that providing the game for free would generate tons of new passionate players and thus more revenue in the cosmetics store, which I think is a bit of a reach.
