This game should be renamed Elite: Asp Holes - Crime and Punishment

Now that I got your attention it is not what you think.

The title is representative illustrating the massive deficiencies in crime and punishment. The ship Asp represents all those defenseless ships or non PVP ships that are either out there exploring, trading, or otherwise doing legal activity. The holes are all the loopholes that exist for criminals to circumvent crime and punishment to pursue their murderous ways.

Elite: Dangerous should be a lawful galaxy, with the exception of anarchy systems.

There needs to be better mechanisms in place to punish criminals. Criminals include cmdr's who prey on other cmdr's for no other purpose than their own perverse entertainment, and for cmdr's doing illegal work for crime factions.

What should be done? You tell me. There have been many discussions about crime and punishment, but the implementation we got was sorely lacking.

So here we go again. I am reopening the discussion on crime and punishment.

How do we create a lawful galaxy?

What loopholes?

OK; silly question: Let's advertise such play.

However: If it is possible to kill/destroy, without fear of punishment. Then, agreed, a change is needed.

I think the C&P is fine as is.

The Galaxy is lawful.

Loitering is a crime punishable by death... what more do you want? lol

i agree

i just wish everyone who wants to see pvp changed or even a pve server/group started a thread about it
so in that way this whole forum will be spammed and maybe FD wil realize that there are many who have a problem with a few

and who says that all the complainers on these forums is the majority of the ED playerbase?

Who says that the players that do enjoy PvP or are okay with it are not the silent majority that don't post on this forum?

OP, since you feel so strongly on this issue there is a solution. One that FD has recently given you!

Create a Squadron, get those who feel as strongly as you to join and hunt those despicable scoundrels down and either force them out of open or make them see their evil ways. FD allows PvP, even non-consentual PvP, it is part of the game. The only way you can get your wish of a hassle free environment is to do the work yourself.

the whole point is that its a "cutthroat galaxy" literally on the main page. its called Elite: *dangerous* for a reason.

There's no such thing as a non-PvP ship, just a poorly outfitted ship.

Most of my non-combat vessels are built well enough to withstand player attacks, and those that aren’t are fast enough to escape danger. Change C&P all you want, I don’t have to worry about dangerous situations anymore lol.

One thing that would be nice to see though, is no caps on player bounties acquired through PvP.

I see both sides of this, but I do lean more towards the side of the legal system of Elite still needs some work.

If you are a known, notorious criminal, what law-abiding station out there would welcome you?

Sure, you can make "Anonymous Access" in a system where you are actually wanted, but when we have a news service that can get the current news out to a ship 30k light years from the nearest inhabited system at the same time it gets to a ship orbiting the planet where the news is compiled for distribution, there's no reason why CMDR MurderHobo wouldn't be known throughout the galaxy, which means law-abiding stations shouldn't be going "It's great to see you again, Commander" when they request docking. They should be going "You have 10 seconds to clear the no-fire zone before we open fire. System authorities have been notified to your presence."

Likewise the whole "Well you paid your fine, all's forgiven." mentality doesn't quite work either. Casey Anthony had her day in court too, and remains one of the most despised people in recent history.

But coming up with, implementing and balancing a believable AND playable system of inter-galactic justice is far beyond the scope of a single thread, and no minor undertaking either. This would be a Beyond-scale effort, though one that would ultimately make for a much more plausible experience. Conversely, there is a lack of game mechanics to support a criminal lifestyle. The closest we have is a Black Market to sell stolen goods, but there's no criminal progression, and a limited number of and variety of supporting missions. This is also an aspect of the game in need of some attention.

Well said

I've played over 2500 hours in Open at all times. I've experienced about 10 minutes of 'unwanted PvP'. It's Open. Deal with it.

Having said that, C&P response is not enough, and that is caused by the general lack of balance in ED.

Be strong, be prepared

You're a wheelchair, CMDR. A wheelchair never die and become frozen corpse floating in space
And you 're better than those eggs(clone) which get killed everyday, bloody in space
