That's rather incredible. I'm still struggling with my mother tongue. I think this chap would be someone incredible to know in real life because having learnt a second language myself it became quickly apparent that what goes with it is a new perspective on thinking, and a totally different way to express oneself. Some things don't translate particularly well into other languages, and some things not at all.

Its inspiring of course and I'd recommend that anyone get started in learning a new language. If nothing else you can converse with members of the opposite sex in foreign countries. :) I know, a rather a shallow motive but whatever it takes hey.

For those of us who aren't quite as gifted as this lucky fella I wonder what is the best language to choose? I'm quite interested in learning Russian at the moment which seems like a very interesting country.

I downloaded a 'learn spanish' podcast that I was listening to on the way home every day in the car, I was pretty surprised at how quickly I was picking it up.

I really should download the entire course and finish it.

I blame it on lave radio for distracting me.

I too would recommend learning a second language ,It does as the OP stated provide another perspective to life.

My "first" second language was french ,unfortunately I learnt it while playing rugby in France ,and due to the universal humour of rugby players had my early vocab' sabotaged, often with hilarious effects :(

I think as a modern language it conveys more politeness and respect ,and in many case's is more precise than "modern" English ,I mean those terrible chauvinist's still dare to use gender specific words .

I miss the days when we still had actress's :)

A friend of mine is Spanish (he'll say he's Catalan) but also speaks English, and French fluently, and knows Italian and German. He says when you learn a few languages, learning new ones is easier.

I've tried to learn French, German and Italian. I never kept up with them. I'd like to though. And learn Welsh, so if anyone wants to group up on Skype, let me know and we'll try learning languages together.

I wish I had paid more attention at French in school. At the time it seemed so irrelevant but its hard to tell a young kid that who thinks he knows everything. It does seem like quite a pleasant language on the ear but my only gripe with it is that everything has a gender. Mr Table, Mrs wine glass.. :)

I used to play Rugby I'll bet they wound you up something chronic. ;)

It really helps if you have to speak the language, learning as a past time with no regular practice makes it much tougher to keep motivated and progress. I think thats one of the advantages those on the continent have over us Brits.

I can speak English, PHP, Actionscript, and Javascript.

Do I get a prize?

Guaranteed employment? ;) Just getting into Javascript / Typescript / ECMAScript 6

The only second language I ever aspired to learn was English. I learned a bit french bit hated it for some reason. Vousez vous parlez francais? Je ne sais pa.
