This instantly killed having a crew the moment I saw it.

So I was excited to play with some friends in a crew so I invited one and the moment I realized that I loose control of my chaff,scb,heatsinks I died inside. The helm should be able to give and take away permissions for what the crew members can do *and I know a lot of people wished the same* Kinda like how you can set stuff to 1 & 2 but no, nada I cant let the survivability of my ship rest in the hands of someone els. So I guess im just going to fly without crew
 
There is a workaround for this, at least there was in the beta and I have not tried it in live yet.
I fly with HOTAS and have all those things mapped to their own buttons and while crew members CAN still map all of them to fire groups, my buttons for them STILL work.
I would suspect the same is true for k/m players.
Ill test it out in live later tonight but I would believe this still works :)

It was all red out for me when he was on board. still the ability of giving permission should be there.

While your ship is crewed you will not be able to assign the functions above to fire groups, but you can assign keys or joystick buttons for all of them in the controller options in the main menu of the game and those were then fully functional even when crewed :)

i have never used them with fire groups only assigned buttons but the fact your cant restrict them from crew [knocked out]

Ahh, my bad, should have read your OP more closely.
I totally agree that this feature should be added quickly. In the meantime we just will have to communicate to our crew members that we prefer to pop shield cells and the like ourselves :)
 
Yep, fun, aint it? I brought this issue up in beta, it was completely ignored by the devs. It won't be fixed, as the gunner would have almost nothing to do.
 
I chalk it up to another poor game design, but I also realize there may be a technical reason for it. If the latter, then I call it poor application/code design. I have hope it'll get fixed when enough players complain about it or get fleshed out when MC becomes more than a "fun" activity. I also have my doubts about my hopefulness. :cool:
 
Hmmmm ... can a mischievous crew member intentionally destroy a ship by activating enough stuff to overheat it? I guess we'll have to wait for the first "griefed by crew" threads to find out :p.
 
Tried it yesterday. Even if "redded" out in firegroups, if you have a keyboard key assigned, it still works. It does for SCB's, so I imagine it does for the rest also.
And why would anyone sound of mind, clutter up firegroups with, chaff, ecm, heatsinks, SCB,s ? Beats me.

Odd, I thought we would as CAPTAINS be able to restrict crew to different functions.

- CREW fire groups
- Crew access panels (no self destruct)

- Allow navigator access to Galaxy/System map and Navigation panel
- Allow gunner access to Contacts/Subtargets and select weapon groups
- Allow engineer access to Scanners/Ship Modules

Etc...
