This is frustrating

Just finally hit 1million credits trading with my Lakon-6, was getting ready to finish a run and buy a new FSD when I was interdicted by an NPC, I couldn't have gotten out of it if my life depended on it... the NPC was an ASP with NO SHIELDS, so I decided to try to fight. It wasn't even shooting, just trying to ram me. It succeeded, slammed me and killed me instantly. I had full cargo, so I lost 750k credits. I AM <more than a little annoyed> !!!!!!!!!!!! *ragequit*

You were in a trader, fighting an asp.

Of course it was not going to be easy, and he rammed you? that is what the lateral thrusters are for :) dodging becomes a very worth while skill to develop :)

It is Elite: Dangerous, if it was easy where would the fun be? :) pay the insurance and enjoy the ride (at least you didn't do anything TOO stupid - like boost into a station trying to avoid the scan because I was carrying out an illegal mission, and splat all over the rear of said station :D)

It's usually the ASP that dies in head on collisions, it seems to have a big of a glass jaw for ramming.

lol, what were you thinking?
Asp has no manoeuvrability, or you don't.
I wouldn't even take on an Asp unless I had a fully geared Viper or better.
You sir got the expected outcome...... Your death.
No one will hear you cry in space.
You could have easily outrun it, like I have many times.
Ive never had a single combat in my Type 6, it has no shields, no guns anyway, all stripped down for hauling, which is what it was designed for.

yeah that's what i don't understand. I had full shields and he wasn't even going that fast... I don't know why I was destroyed instantly.

lol that's why there's forums!

After an honest debrief with yourself.

What learning points would you pass on to us. In case we find ourselves in a similar position?

Run away would have worked perfectly so to say "you couldn't get out of it" is wrong

Don't go to a knife fight with fists don't take a knife to a gun fight and he who flees fights another day

You've gone into a fight in a transit van when you could and should have run away

Run, run, run.

I meant I couldn't evade the interdiction, was just way off my screen too fast for my maneuverability

NPC with no shields trying to ram rather than shoot it such a horrible fail AI wise. They need to stop with the combat ships with no shields nonsense and make them fight properly.

It's tough when this happens, but we learn from these experiences. The red mist will dissipate over time, and you'll be much the wiser after these unfortunate incidents.

Good luck, and you now know what not to do! :)

The ASP probably had updated hull armour, they are far tougher than a type-6 with upgraded armour.

If you are in a trader with cargo, run. Its pretty much that simple. Staying to fight is just daft. An asp has a lot of damage capabilities.
I don't know your load-out but making sure I don't lose it all is why I always run my traders well shielded and with high rank power distributors
to keep boosting away quicker than any interdictors can follow.

ASP isn't a combat ship...

It's a multirole ship - compared to a lakon type 6, it is a combat ship :)

I do have one place I have sympathy with the OP though. Ramming is a tactic that I seriously wish the NPC's wouldn't do.

BTW, if it makes you feel better OP, day before launch, I was in my Asp, and was rammed by a suicidal NPC. I lost 44 million credits in that one thanks to a temporary increase in rebuy costs by Frontier, coudn't afford my rebuy, so went from a 44 million credit asp to a sidewinder.
