This is how I play. I think you'll be jealous - come see my latest imagineering

Hi Commanders.

I'm placing my post here as I think it will be of interest to the wider ED community rather than just the usual VR crowd.
Some of you may have been following my 'homemade' motion simulator projects, which I publish on the VR section.

I'm approaching 2900hrs in ED and consider myself as a committed and avid ED player. I've spent 2000 of those hrs in VR and the last 1000 in VR with motion simulator. I also took my 3dof motion chair (v4) to an EliteMeet to show-off and for others to try out. I've now completed 100hrs testing/refining my newly-built 6dof full motion rig, purely for ED use. It's usually only used in 'joystick mode' and this has been demonstrated in previous (youtube) posts in the VR section.

I'll be the first to confess that VR really enhances the game. Those that have it know that but many others still have this terrific experience to come. However, motion takes it to another level again. This is what I have spent circa 500+ hrs playing with and developing. But joystick mode is so impersonal. If I knock the joystick while docked I spill my beer!, if I crash into something/someone nothing happens. If I engage autodock no motion unless I move the sticks to suit as well.

I've seen the future. I've dreamt of how I want to play the game so many times now that I'm able to share this dream with you too. I attach my latest 6dof sim (v5) ED flight vid below demoing crashes, autodocking, combat and general flight motion for your entertainment. It is 10 mins long and well worth a watch to the end. Its the way I play every day (at least until 28th Aug). A little help from FD would help make this real though - forever.

As always Commanders, comments and criticisism welcomed as are any questions.

Fly safe,
Cmdr Blastard

Very nice, have you considered sticking a bass transducer on there well? I'd love a motion setup, would definitely have to install something like a truck seat on there, need my comfort when gaming for long sessions.

That is awesome.

It's simply stunning, and well done for actually getting it working.

It would be nice if the game could output data to something like that, but I think the amount of people who would create something like that is probably countable on one hand.

Very nice - reminds me of a flight sim they had lashed up in Glasgow uni's engineering dept that I got to have a nosey at about two years ago (I worked with professional maritime simulators at the time).
It's the big thing needed to really make VR "work" - especially in stuff like vehicle simulators - I doubt there is anyone who hasn't gotten at least a bit sick in the SRV in VR - something like this should eliminate that I would think.

Awesome job- and repped deservedly.

Frontier- you need to take notes with work like this and posts like these... instead of the whinging and negativity that goes on elsewhere in the forums, Reddit, etc.. If you're smart you'll offer this guy a job in R&D and working very closely with your senior programmers.

This is quite simply the future of gaming- years ago most didn't think that having VR was even possible, and now it is. If you pay close attention to those who put this much effort into playing a game they love and enjoy (instead of reactive responses from wannabe programmer critique), you might actually get ahead of the so-called "competition" (Scam Citizen and No Man's Game... are you listening?) and perhaps even set a standard for simulation gaming.

That's an awesome rig! One question, how did you come up with the positioning of the chair? Wouldn't it be more comfortable if only a little bit more upright? Or is it something that works better / facilitates movement this way?

Awesome! I would build it too.. but I'm quite sure my wife would leave me with the kids! Thinking about building it and hide it from her! You know, like a mysterious hidden place behind a magic wall in the basement... lol
