This is how to get G5 engineering materials fast

The creator of that video is notorious for promoting grind to skip the grind. He also was complaining profusely a while ago that he burnt out on the game (I wonder why) and that it was Frontiers fault (my paraphrasing and interpretation).

Here is my usual mantra, kids: Regard material collection as part of your daily game play. Choose your rewards wisely, collect what you come across even if you don't need it, and use material traders to your advantage. There is no medal at the end of grinding to fill your bins. You might even realize that there is no game play at the "end" of the grind left, too.

I usually do, but if you take that strategy to build a ship to kill Thargoids, the war will be long over and everybody dead before you have something you can kill a single Interceptor with.

I doubt that.. By picking up mats in your daily play (if it's diverse enough), you'll have plenty of mats to trade for what you need.

It's really just if you want to speed run the game, that you need to resort to relogging, and IMO it's really boring gameplay. Been there, done that, and I've been cured of my idiocy.

But I must admit, it's probably not apparent to a new player that you should continually pick up mats, and how to do it.

It will be a problem for fresh CMDRs with empty bins, but maybe diving straight into the Thargoid war right after completing your pilot training might not be the best idea anyway unless you are a veteran with a fresh reset and want to speedrun. The war is all-present and the barriers are lowered significantly, but you still need at least some skill, experience and training before fighting Goids. Just remember to pick up all the mats along with the training :).
