Looks like this lion isn't paying much attention to the null barrier.

A null barrier is exactly what its name says - NULL - there is nothing, just an invisible line on the ground to mark the outline of the habitat. If you want a barrier you have to use a different type otherwise you have to make sure the terrain is in a way that it prevents an escape.

Well, null barriers don't stop animals from escaping, it's not a bug.

They can cross the null barrier. You have to make walls out of the ground, rocks or have moats to keep your animals in. Be aware though that some animals can climb the rocks and some will just swim across.

All null barriers do is let the animals know where they need to pay attention to, in terms of the biome and such.
