A very good post on a forum about horizons it is not from me but my feelings are the sames and i am completely angry about FD whiles still loving Elite Danergous.

A IMPORTANT BACKGROUND ABOUT FRONTIER BUSINESS:

December of 2014 - Frontier releases Elite: Dangerous, disregarding of huge number of backers saying that the game is not ready for release. Frontier prefers to ignore them and launches the game. Consequently, the game doesn't score too well on review websites. The main complain is 'the game is empty'.

April of 2015 - Even though Frontier saying that they would not release the game on Steam, they do it. Frontier say that the term 'release' regards just to the first release on december. So, it's our fault to interpret them semantically wrong;

April of 2015 to June of 2015 - Original backers complain about Frontier not giving them Steam keys. Although, it's been a common practice nowadays, reluctantly Frontier say they'll study the case. After a wave of hate towards them, they finally give keys to the early backers;

August of 2015 - Frontier starting selling the first-expansion to the game. Elite: Dangerous Horizons. Pre-order, only on Frontier Store;

November of 2015 - Frontier gives Steam users a huge discount on Elite: Dangerous. Just $15 dollars!

December of 2015 - On Steam Forums, Frontier posts that they do not know when Horizons will arrive on Steam. As consequence, and fearing not to able to play it soon, and also losing the pre-order discount (20%), a lot of people buy the expansion on the Frontier Store;

Still December of 2015 - Horizons expansion arrives almost simultaneously on Steam;

(i) The 20% discount is still there, even though Frontier explicit said that the discount is just for pre-order;

(ii) People who can buy the expansion using the Steam exchange rate - and consequently save money, and fearing not playing later and also losing the pre-order discount, because Frontier was not transparent about it - ended paying more for the same product;

(iv) People who bought the original Steam complain that they didn't know they didn't need to buy the original game to play Horizons. However, Frontier posted about this on its own forum, although, nothing about it was said on Steam Forums.

(v) Non-cosmetic Exclusive Contents: Although, until some days ago the only thing that you could buy with real-money was some cosmetic itens. Now, only people who pre-order Horizons or have Elite and Horizons can fly the Cobra MkIV ship. (Edit: I agree, this is not pay-to-win!)

This is how Frontier has been managing its business until now. I tried to be very neutral and just enumerated what I saw since the E:D release. I t's up to you to read and conclude whatever you want.

WHAT ABOUT THE GAME ITSELF?

Until now, because it's been improved and new stuff has been added, this expansion doesn't worth at all the price they're asking. My suggestion is: Wait for a Steam Sale.

CONCLUSION:

I love the game, but I hate the company.

If you buy a "Finished" game - you will finish it.
If you buy an evolving game - it will have bugs.

I am in no hurry to finish this game.
It's got its hooks in me.

I expect to Pay some money periodically to keep Frontier alive and healthy.
(skins, seasons, subscriptions, special content, decals whatever.)

I expect Frontier to change their business models.

I expect to encounter some terrible bugs. (maybe even Thargoids)

I expect the rules to change.

I expect things to be different with each patch.

I expect i will be playing this game in two years.

It's a business, not a charity, they are entitled to do whatever they legally can to ensure the company makes money, turns a profit, and keeps producing products to let it keep making money and turning profit..

I find this viewpoint changes drastically between people who have only ever been employees, vs people who have actually had to run a business.

You're right, it's exactly like Activision and CoD, they make the game they want, and make profit on it. And Frontier have every right to take on that role, after all they are their own company with their own game! :)

What do you want them to have done? Not have released the game in December and gone bankrupt? I'm not sure how releasing the game then (80 metacritic score apparently is "not scoring too well") hurt anyone tbh

I'm not even completely clear on what the OP's actual complaint is. I can tell you're upset about something but I can't figure out what. I don't think FDev did anything unethical based on that description of events.

^^ This. I wasted two minutes of my life reading through the OP's wall of text. What should I say, the drama and hyperbole are all there. Yet, the post feels somehow empty, it lacks depth and content. Oh wait, that sounds somehow familiar... :rolleyes:

OP, are suggesting that they've been doing it intentionally to... I don't know, screw up their players (or Valve?), or was it just more of usual confusion typically coming from FDEV?

I actually quite like FD's business practice, because they deliver things on time and patches the game frequently; the created a basic product and build features upon it gradually instead of constantly missing the delivery deadline and blowing out the project.

OP I don't know what business do you prefer, maybe Cloud Imperium's business practice lol? (if you can even call that a business practice. They miss more targets than Russian space shuttle program)

The Game?? Do I get a prize??

Same exact post on Steam. Contradicts himself throughout.

Don't like the price, don't pay it. Repeating it over and over does not give it more weight.

Totally agree, you did not have to buy the game. <Ahem>

I really don't envy DB's position. He clearly has a vision about Elite (quite possibly from 30 years ago) and is very passionate about that. He also has to balance that with his responsibilities to FD as a company (i.e. you can't make all decisions out of passion). And then he likely does try to keep in mind the rumblings of the fans/critics as well.

It can sometimes be easy to jump to conclusions about business decisions. But if you aren't aware of all of the factors that go into those decisions, it's not really fair to criticise. I'm not making a judgement here myself one way or the other. Just saying that there is likely a lot going on that we do not know about.

I don't feel sorry for him in relation to the negativity on here. I mean, he's surrounded by intelligent, enthusiastic, professional, dedicated people. Why the hell would he come to this forum? :D
