This is the game. thanks Frontier

The engine of the game looks pretty solid but am afraid of the network side will it be stable enough for the multiplayer version of the game, i guess we will find out next month.

IIRC one of the early kickstarter videos suggested that work on the networking code was already quite advanced even at that stage, will have to look back & see if I can find a reference when I get home this evening.

If FD can really nail the networking side, making it as stable and responsive as the singlpayer game seams to be, they would put certain companies (*cough* CCP *cough*) to great shame... just saying. ;)

Disable "flight assist" for Newtonian physics. It will take you a looong time to get used to control the ship like that though. ;)

After playing the alpha for hours, there is a sense of boredom creeping in, but it's only natural when your limited to the same actions over and over again. Saying this, the foundation so far are hinting at a truly great final game.

Wait till you have that expensive cargo trying to get to that station that is where the true excitement begins :)

one thing i will say about combat is that any player thinking of taking on the role of Pirate will have a tough time staying alive for any long periods, and andybody that wants to survive in iron man mode will seriously have to rethink how they approach combat as taking on lesser ships than yours will not be so straight forward.

If it was easy it would be boring :)

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Yeah, FD nailed it with this demo. From what I see of the gameplay (even just this combat only alpha) I think this game will be exactly what I'm looking for!

having been here since the kickstarter and reading hundreds of posts about why Newtonian physics are awesome or why there shouldnt be any sounds in a vacume amongst other topics, I'm happy to say that after playing the Alpha, Frontier have largly ignored these topics and created a game that looks and feels like the Original elite,

judging the game soley on the Alpha combat gameplay Im happy to say that this is the scifi blaster that i wanted.

Thanks Frontier

absolutely, they nailed it.

Can't wait to switch from the passenger-seat to the one behind the wheel. Yes, I admit, I'm a terrible assistant driver.

I guess switching off the flight assistent might be like switching off the ESP in a car on an icy road. Can you confirm that or can you describe it?

Actually people a lot of people is having trouble grasping what newtonian flight is (not saying you're one of them) but the best way to explain it is strafing in a fps game, Everybody knows how that work and it's pretty much the same except it's strafing in 3D.

As for the mechanics in Elite i found that toggling flight assist on/off when needed works the best - meaning you don't go no flight assist or full flight assist all the time, I tend to use it for various things like :

1. Gaining speed - Boost your engine to max and then turn off flight assist and you will cruise that direction at full speed while not building up heat - you can then move your ship around almost like a turret (works great to make fast passages on the Anaconda while tearing up the sides with your guns).

2.Orbit - with a little training you can learn to turn on/off the flight assist at the right time and orbit enemies shooting them while they can't fire on you - this sounds really though but it isen't - as you can see in the vid it's rather easy to orbit stuff, it quickly becomes second nature(you should note that it really becomes easy when you learn to use your vertical/lateral thrusting).

That's all i can think of at the moment - i'm sure there many more applications ..and once again i'm thankful to frontier for making a game where the ships actually moves like spaceships and not airplanes in space.

Thanks for interupting the game and reply.
Gives me a bit of an idea - kind of asteroids in today maybe. Great to hear about the heat info and I love the orbit idea already, can't wait to try that out myself.
I just wonder if it might be possible to 'park' the ship sideways into a stations docking bay.

Breath in, exhale, relax, it won't be to long now, breath in, exhale, relax, it won't be to long now, breath in, exhale, relax, it won't be to long now, breath in, exhale, relax, it won't be to long now, breath in, exhale, relax, it won't be to long now, breath in, exhale, relax, it won't be to long now, breath in, exhale, relax, it won't be to long now... :D

There is nothing in the ships movement that prevents that so unless the the space station have some mechanic preventing a side park from happening i don't see any reason that it could happen.. it should be rather easy actually.

I've been playing "park the sidewinder on asteroids" lately :D

Did you manage it or did the ship bounce away from it again?

I managed it, It wasen't that hard.. you just have to get used to the lovely scraping sounds of hull Vs. rock.

I fact i got a great urge to put on a spacesuit and walk outside doing some prospecting :D
