Engineers This is why 5000ly to unlock Palin is bad mechanic

How on earth have you played for that long and never gone any further than 4934Ly?!?

Seriously the 5kly unlock is one of the easiest of the engineer requirements, it's 1.5-2hrs flying time, heck you can even self destruct at the end and still meet the unlock requirement.

I'm lacking only 2 jumps, now I have to make another 100+ jumps, what's the point of this? Where's the logic?

The logic is that you haven't been 5000 LY out, so you need to do it. An alternative would be 'total LY traveled', but that would not mean 'going outside of the bubble'.

"So I got this quest to travel to enter this house and see if anyone is home. I travel all the way there, but stop short when in reaching distance of the door and head home. So now I have to go all the way back just for the final two steps?! What is the logical?!"

The description says you need to make it 5k away from your starting point. You could have checked before you came back to the bubble. Same page as you posted. This is all on you.

It's not the mechanic. You just need to complete the requirements like the rest of us.

I had this distance in 2.0 before Engineers came out, at that time I didn't know there will be such requirement.

I recently came back from doing the Palin run..
When the distance-from-start in the right side panel was showing 5003LY, I got a PM from Palin saying his navpoint and icon had been added to my galmap.
Just keep flying away from the bubble till it triggers seems logical. :)

I got the similar message from Elvira when I passed 300LY from my starting location (on an Alt-CMDR) today.

For me, it means 9934ly of travel to get an invitation and if you think I'm gonna do it, you're delusional.

Or 5001lys and a self destruct.

In an fsd engineered ship a few hours, even in a stock explorer build an afternoon. Your choice regardless.

I too OP, will never bother doing this ridiculous trip. (Anyone who thinks it adds gameplay is delusional. There is NOTHING to do outside populated space.)

However, unlike the OP, I acknowledge that I won't be getting Palin as a result. (Not a problem. I'll shortly be making a thread outlining my new RP to "deal" with this.)

I think I see OP's problem though. Yes, he's travelled as far as he has. But, right now he's in the bubble? I can understand the bitterness, especially if his distance was made before details of engineers came out. However, whilst I understand the frustration, he, nor any of us, are so important that we'll get things tailored to our personal taste.

Im wondering how the OP feels about mining, combat bonds etc, and 5k is 5k not 4k and ohh all most there..

For some it might be boring as fudge but its not hard to find a star just over 5k out, you can even do it with passengers for a bit more of an incentive.
