PvP This is why the 15 Second Timer needs to be changed...

Why you ask? Because of people abusing this mechanic to escape getting a re-buy of their ship when attacked by players (like this dude who brags about using this timer mechanic multiple times while under attack by other players in the video he made himself and the video is public, which I provided below), and because of people using this mechanic to escape the re-buy of their ships when attacked by NPC's too.

While in burning Thargoid attacked Stations not docked, try going to the main menu. You get a 20 second timer before you can exit to the Main Menu (last time I tried anyway). Now why is the timer 5 seconds less when being attacked by a NPC or real Player?? Makes zero sense!!

The 15 second Timer to the Main Menu should reset back to 15 seconds each time you take any damage from a NPC or Player. This is what would make sense. There is too many people avoiding re-buy from attacking NPC's and/or Players the way the Timer works as it is.

So a player is in a ship that can survive for the required time to log out as per the game rules and not exploiting yet you are still crying cos you can't kill him quick enough??

sounds like it's working as intended to me.... and the fact he's made a vid just to mine your tears is amazing :p Good on him.

I wonder what would happen if FDEV changed the logout timer such that if the player being attacked managed to log out of the game, then on the attacker's client, it would simulate the attacked ship blowing up in a large KABLOOEY!, the attacker not being able to tell the difference?

I reckon we wouldn't be having as many of these threads as the attackers would get their explosions and little thrills.

I like that idea. It would certainly mess up their shame videos.

First of all, I think that cheating in video games is lame and pathetic. Only FD get to define what cheating is in their game though.

Let me ask you - which of these scenarios is worse:

- Player A 'flips the chess board in the air', thus bringing a premature end to the game. Player A has basically conceded, and Player B wins by default. I would compare this to menu logging.

- Player A manages to find an exploit in the game and gain an advantage, helping player A win without player B having any idea of Player A's advantage. I would compare this to the engineers exploit.

Neither of these is considered cheating by FD, which is a great shame.

What engineers exploit?

It still hurts Pirates, but yeah. As long as they (the person doing the interdicting) get things like bounty claims (based on the bounties of the logger) or a small cache of cargo (based on the type and amount carried by the logger) as a consolation prize for someone combat logging on you, I'd be happy.

Clogging falls into both of those categories. They concede the fight, but manage to reap the rewards of a successful trade/BGS/PowerPlay run.

I'd hate to see people too harshly punished for using Clogging, but something's got to give.
