This just might shock you...

..but it's true that the Type 6 is a poor ship for bounty hunting. Not sure why I thought I would give it a go but I did.

So I was super cruising around, spotted a USS and dropped out to find a dozen canisters of Grain floating about, which I grabbed. Next USS was a single sidewinder who opened up on me. I was holding my own and after quite a while of fighting the sidewinder another ship turned up - a Viper. It turned out to be a police ship. So what do you think the long arm of the law would do at this stage, seeing a pirate having a go at a poor trader? That's right, he scanned me, fined me for having the picked up grain and then opened fire, which finished off what the sidewinder had started!

Hardly fair of the rozzer was it?

They are harsh but fair! ;)

Fair?? How's that fair? He must have decided which was the worse offense, attacking a ship with the intention of destroying it and killing it's pilot or picking up space rubbish.

Ok, clear decision

I had this happening too. I was interdicted by a single sidey. Was holding my own when a system authority vessel jumped in. Only he actually helped me after the scan (I'm such a law-abiding person...). Even letting me have the last shot. Warm fuzzy feeling after that. :D

Technically, the Viper was correct in identifying your cargo load as stolen, since it would have been registered as belonging to another vessel (as it had not been registered as being loaded on your ship at a station, but to someone else's ship). While the Viper would have been better to have taken out your attacker before dealing with your infraction, you still had cargo that was not registered to you in your hold (but was registered to another ship).

Granted, a lethal response to carrying illegal cargo is (in my view) excessive. A fine would be a first step, followed by instructions to eject said cargo from your hold, and only then, a lethal response if you did not comply.

Why the ejection of cargo?

Well... If you scoop up 100,000 worth of Gold belonging to someone else, and are fined e.g. 250 credits for the infraction of carrying illegal/stolen cargo, that's hardly a punishment considering you would have still made 95,750 credits from the haul. If you get caught, you should have to suffer some sort of loss, and not end up with a profit.

I'm sure the devs will tune this system as development continues.

TL;DR: The lesson here is that, should you decide to pick up cargo that doesn't belong to you... Get rid of it as soon as you can.

I was "getting my blood flowing" a few times bounty hunting in a Type6 (when I went mind numb from trading). maybe you just did it wrong??

I fitted 2 cannons. So its armed like a sidewinder I used to fly. A bit more sluggish, but way better shields.

I didnt roll the dice with USS, I went to nav beacons, and bounty hunted/looted the wanted FREIGHTERS.

Then that type6 was a true privateer... outgunning and maneuvering the other lakons and haulers easilly, and gobbling up all the loot they dropped. If the police or npc bounty hunter shows up (the ones that scan-spam you), I simply frameshift away, pull a quick U turn, and reenter the nav beacon... resetting the instance. [.. exploit??]

In "civilized" space I would have to watch close for patrol craft, before playing pacman among all those strewn about cannisters...

.. but yeah: TL;DR= Nav beacons are where the npc looting and bounty hunting is AT.

Maybe he thought the other ship was a bounty hunter chasing down a thief? ;)

For whatever silly reason, police ships don't know someone is wanted until they scan them. I kind of dislike this distinction between players and NPCs.

Managed to take 10 gold from scavenging while in a Type 6. Upon arrival at Eranin I didn't make it in time to the station before the authorities pounced! :)
