This need saying...

I've played from release fumbling about making a few credits trading and bounty hunting here and there then I found a link to a trade tool and bingo, dropped the bounty USS nonsense and started trading and the credits are rolling in. Shame I had to stumble across a third party toll to make any decent financial progress in the game.

Just my 2 pennies worth.

for me figuring out good trade routes are part of the fun but glad you found the tools to allow you to have fun as well.

ditto, i've never used a trading tool and so far i have a tricked out cobra, a tricked out type 6, a type 7 and 22 million credits. my current trade route earns me between 1.5-2 million credits an hour.

Are you working a job, or playing a video game?

I think this just shows currently how broken for a better use the current "Career" decisions are. The only thing that isnt RNG based is the only way to make good money.

Well that's the thing, I've been bumping my rep up at a faction for weeks for 4-10 k credits, for what?? I can make 100k in 5 mins now.

Really? I hadn't noticed. I've made good money both trading and exploring, I've only dabbled in bounty hunting so far but It appears there is money in that too.

Trading makes the most money, but that kinda makes sense doesn't it? Merchants and traders have always been richer than warriors, explorers and adventurers, no?

EDIT:

Add missions.

Those were the missions, take scrap here and there for 4k-10 then deliver some secret info fo for 800 credits, what a shocking waste of time compared to trading with a third party trade tool. The best of it is I thought I was doing well earning 40k for a mission and gaining rep!

Too bad you didn't try to discover the prices on your own. It's a real joy to find roundtrips that pays 2000-2700 cr profit per ton. Notepad++, screenshots and a few textfiles was all I needed back then. A real sense of accomplishment which is crucial to how I experience the game. And for that reason it's worth staying away from 3'rd party pricelists.
But then again it's all up to you how you make the journey in Elite.

Good luck, Commander. o7

There is money but the time vs ROI isnt there.

Trading takes time to find a good route and luck unless you use a tool. Once you find the route, or it tells you the route you simply got to point A, collect goods, go to point B sell. Rinse repeat until your trade route dies.

Anything else for the most part requires RNG luck. The first uss might have the mission content, or it might be uss number 10.
You could farm extraction sites to bounty hunt, until they die out somewhat.

Or you can just trade, with no randomosity and get paid big bucks for little time investment overall. (comparitively)

I guess it depends on your goals in the game. If it was not just about making 'lods of emone' then you could have fun in other ways by building your rank rather than your bank account, which would follow suit as you become a better pilot and bag bigger bounties. And the game came out like a week ago, be patient. Who knows, maybe in a month they will have additional in game trading tools. Then we can all fulfill our dreams of becoming Le happy space merchant collecting all the shekels lol.

Both, mortgage and wifed up so job yes and gaming for get away from it all!

No, when he asked you whether you were working a job or playing a game, he meant are you treating the game like a game or a job?

Point being from your posts in this thread all you seem to care about is making credits and Watching Numbers Going Up instead of having fun, unless your idea of fun is using an external tool to know where to repeat the same activity ad nauseam so you can make a lot of credits.

All the tools do is take away the only hard part of trading, finding your own routes. Now you'll be running from A to B until you've accumulated enough currency. There is no game, there is only the grind.

You are right that it was job/chore before as I felt I was doing the right thing, playing the game as one should but not gaining any satisfaction from it.

I'm now having fun watching my EFFORTS be rewarded so yes It's a game and it's NOW become fun all thanks to a third party addon.

Alright, so find a trade route on your own that pays twice the amount you're running now (it's very possible) and you'll have twice as much fun seeing your efforts doubly rewarded!

You're right - it's quite common to be frustrated early on in the game due to lack of 'progress' - many confuse this with 'size of wallet'.
Progress is what you make of it.
After 3-4 weeks anyway, most people no longer worry about the amount in the wallet. Hopefully they will be over it - and have started to find way of enjoying the game.
Trade is extremely lucrative, bounty hunting as well. But not for the FNG (fine new guy) - you need to have invested in your ships, hence you're 3-4 weeks out into the game when it really starts to open up.
