This Patch Respects Your Time

Ah, I forgot the SRV settings.

As for extras, the stick is there, because that's the way I was trained.

Pico: I'm just pre-empting the patronisation around here, not you. The developers should have long ago created an in-game tool to save settings, bookmarks, etc. Not personal against you. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

It takes less than 1 minute to backup your binds. Backups are what smart people do. Regularly. Because they are smart. Don't you want to be smart? Sure you do. Make a backup.

At least it's just your keybindings: https://www.eveonline.com/article/about-the-boot.ini-issue

More constructively, echoing one of the earlier posts, I too have never had an issue with lost keybindings. It also seems to be the same people reporting repeated issues with keybindings. Not taking away from the issues experienced by those individuals, i empathise as the time I had to remap keybindings the recent beta was frustrating enough, but it really feels like a case of however the keybindings work, that they get preserved "In most cases", and for a few edge cases, it doesn't work. But I couldn't even begin to speculate on that.

Why do people need to take keybinding backups for patches (that roll out automatically in most cases) when literally 2 batch commands would correct this oft repeating issue? It's not good enough and there's really no valid excuse for it.

There is no valid excuse for a company to wipe binding to install a new patch.

There is no valid reason for any player to accept it as a standard.

Rather than whinging, try actually checking the info/tools provided?
My bindings have reset sometimes but generally have been fine, but when it has happened in your bindings folder there is an error log you can check.

When it's happened to me as others have said above, I always get the same message and it's my gamepad (For the SRV) causing it as its changed ID.

There where errors when loading preset file: Custom.binds
Failed to find GUID for device: 00790006
Failed to find GUID for device: 00790006

This was after I swapped out my PS pad for an Xbox one and i'd forgotten to change one button over.

If it can't find a bound controller of course the game will reset to default settings as a fallback.

I am really curious as to what is different between systems like I have and those of people who are getting their binds overwritten over and over.

One of the most common themes when it comes to this is that changing controllers, or not having all teh stuff plugged in, or moving stuff around.

So basically, if Elite cannot find the controller, it usually default to standard settings, and here you have a choice. exit elite, fix the connectivity issues with the controllers, etc, and start Elite again and now Elite will most of the time, remember your settings.

There are numerous ways Elite could improve on this. And one these could be to actually Alert the user about missing controllers. instead of silently reset the bindings.

I have lost my bindings a couple of times, and before I learned what the issue was, I did redo my bindings. Now I automatically create a backup everytime before launching Elite.
We still have the odd occurrences where Elite simply overwrite the bindings after being updated. This is why a backup of the bindings is good to have.

Interesting data for the console player. I'm on PC. My joystick did not change *any* properties.

And, my backup failed to restore the bindings.
