Looking at the bugs forum, clearly is at least one weapons bug that might be annihilating people's ships with a horrid rapid fire. Looking back, first day, I think I almost had the same thing happen to me as I fled, but I was lucky. That said, I think the AI is an improvement. I think on the whole its pretty good, and yes, it does make rank everything. A Deadly Eagle is not laughable anymore. That of course creates a problem with ranks and whether people are truly skilled in the rank level to match the corresponding AI. That's not to be rude. Kill enough ships in a res farm and you'll rank up, doesn't mean you've got the skillset of the rank. If you've farmed cautiously rather than skillfully, you could end up having very good AI ships now "matching" you. I suppose if you've robigo'd to get big Corvettes, same problem. I would say larger ships require more understanding of tactics and skill. They have firepower but can't really escape if cornered. If a player has rushed to the top, perhaps they've not got the learned skills to handle these expensive beauties.
My point is, the AI is good, and I'm glad they're tweaking rather than changing, but there is a genuine issue of rank matching for many players which is no one's fault but probably needs to be considered. And a few bugs that are very damaging in some select cases. Saying "git gud" or whatever, non-ironically, ignores that while there's a lot of good, there are issues that need addressing. In the end, unhappy players play someone else, which hurts development. No concerns should be swatted aside, they should be considered on merit.
Getting videos is very helpful. Looking at the evidence in the bug reporting made it very clear there are some issues to be ironed out in some of the AI behaviour...
