This time my heart went BOOM....

man, why dont you play in solo, would have saved you all that thrill and excitement and you could easily threatlessly carry your cargo without shields or weapons.

I wouldn't be suprised if the Python let you go on this occasion. Did he send any messages?

guess no time for messaging ^^ No message, immediate fire...

Have some rep! Great story, this is what Elite Dangerous is all about! Those playing Solo mode miss the point!

I had a 'moment' not long ago. Had my Asp fitted out as an Explorer and did some exploring 500ly beyond inhabited systems. I came back, and because I know the Asp is such a good craft for combat I refitted it with a few different gismos, but keeping the Advanced Discovery Scanner for one. I now had lots of utility bits - chaff, point defence, K-warrant etc - and Interdiction module etc etc.

On first interdiction (NPC) I submit, to find everything goes dead!!! No response! Panic! NPC is tickling my shields and I'm not moving or doing anything. PANIC! .... then I realise on changing a few gismos I had forgotten to check total power consumption! Quick!! Modules screen - shut a few off!! Now I have power and can move! Luckily in this time I still had shields left and then was easily able to see him off.... and get a bounty at the same time!

Lesson learned: DO MAKE SURE POWER CONSUMPTION STAYS WITHIN THE LIMITS WHEN CHANGING OR UPGRADING STUFF!!!! You probably check when originally setting up the ship, but may forget when re-configuring!

Anyway, I didn't die, or get close to it like you nearly did! But it was a lesson well learned, in the same way that forgetting to ask for docking permission is to most people too!

Absolutely!

Well, since I've flown a few and went into some fights too... overpowerplanting the ship doesn't help decrease heat problems. I THINK it's specially LakonT7 related design problems. An example? I always, and still (in a python now!) just install a powerplant that JUST supports everything deployed, not more, for sure not less.
I tried to fit an overpowered powerplant and see what happens under charge.
The lakon T7 goes very fast over 100% whilst boosting and FSD'ing. The python for the example, over-powerplant-fitted or not, doesn't overheat at any time...

So I GUESS overpowering a ship is senseless. At some cases to gain som jump distance, I underpower it and turn of some systems I won't use, like cargo hatch, quite expensive in powerconsumtion.

Now I might be wrong, but that's what I tested so far...
